Acton defeats Georgetown 3-1 in Acton Arena as a late Georgetown penalty shot breaks the goose egg. Malone was strong for Georgetown, while Acton’s offense, led by Lindsay and Marzo, countered Georgetown’s new plays and held the lead through two periods.
George Gordon won the Nassagaweya Township election to serve as Reeve in 1937. The vote was close with Heeve 300 defeats Finney 279 for the office, while council seats went to Simpson Dredge Vansickle Stokes and others.

Bennett, followed by lunch served by hostesses and a social hour.
At Queens Park after a cabinet session the 1937 motor car licenses deadline was extended to January 1. Drivers must renew by January 18. Commercial truck licenses are extended to February 15 for small operators and P.C.V. Meentes must be procured by March 31.
In the Rural League Dublin blanks Rockwood 2-0 in the opener while Eden Mills shuts out Lame Farmers 2-0. Everton overcomes Jones Boys 4-3 after trailing 3-1 as referee Joe Woods oversees a low scoring night. Scores listed: Dublin 3 Rockwood Jo Eden Mills 2 Lorne Farmers 0 Everton 4 Jones Boys 1. Three more games set for tonight including Jones Boys vs Lorne Rifles and Dublin vs York Road.
The United Church Ladies' Aid held its annual meeting at Mrs. J. Symon’s home with President Mrs. J Symon in charge. Reports showed a healthy treasury as seven groups prepare for a mile of copper该? Funds. Officers for 1937 were elected including President Mrs. J Symon and Vice Presidents Mrs. Belt and Mrs. Johnston.
Mr HW OT Arnold president of the Storey Glove Company Acton a leading Dominion glove maker died Saturday in Western Hospital Toronto from injuries suffered Friday after being struck by a boy cyclist while waiting for a bus at Acton. He was in his seventy ninth year and leaves five sons three daughters. Funeral held Tuesday at Georgetown with Anglican service and Greenwood Cemetery interment.
William Simmons 22 died in Guelph General Hospital from a head wound. Police say he shot himself with a .22 rifle after a quarrel with Miss Elson over reconciliation. Earlier, he allegedly struck her with a hammer and she escaped to a service station before he returned to his car and killed himself.
The Scout Mothers Auxiliary met in the Parish Hall on Monday evening with the new Executive in charge. They discussed plans for no banquet to be held soon. A contest conducted by Mrs. W Chisholm was won by Mrs. W Evans. Miss Jean Brunells performed a piano solo and Yam Brunelle sang with his sister Jean. A lunch was served and the meeting adjourned.
On New Year’s Day Alex Scotty Lindsay said goodbye to Acton after a short time among residents. He proved himself in cherished community events and helped with numerous efforts. Friends regret his departure but wish him good luck on his next chapter.
Last Thursday evening in Glasgow Mr and Mrs Joy McQuen chie celebrated their silver wedding anniversary with friends from Acton and Toronto joining in Glasgow. Fourteen years ago Mr McGeuchle moved to Canada and three years later he and his wife settled in Acton where they have lived eleven years amid a warm circle of friends. A Chesterfield suite was presented by their sons and daughter as a memento of the occasion.
The U F Y P O held its regular New Year’s Eve meeting at Mr. and Mrs. Elliott’s home. Vice President Wilmer Davison chaired as members rendered piano solos readings duets and musical selections. The group adjourned with the National Anthem and lunch followed with thanks to Mrs. Elliott.
A car driven by Herbert Jarrett 10 left a sideroad curve a mile east of Campbellville and hit a pole. Six youths aboard were injured. others named include Vernon Coulson 17 David Wellbeloved 20 James Hunt an end end end Orville Mitchell 18 Allan Ferriers 17. Three were taken to Guelph General Hospital.
David Young 65 a Hackney s merchant resided on Qladwin Street Guelph was found dead in a pond one mile west of Rockwood after disappearing on Thursday. His car was found on the Guelph Rockwood highway twelve hours earlier. No inquest will be held. Survived by wife three daughters and two sons.
The inaugural Acton Council meeting appoints Finance PIE Light Town Hall Streets and Walks Parks and Arena committees. Auditors Assessor and Tax Collector appointments authorized. Regular meetings set for every other Monday at 7 30 p m with July and August lighter. Budget items approved including Arena public address system and health officers named.
Revered as a long time preacher in Ontario and former blacksmith Rev John Little of Rockwood died New Years Day in his 82nd year after a heart attack last year. Born March 11 1855 in Puslinch he later ran blacksmith shops at Cor Whin Cann Mount Forest and Cann, married Susan McFarlane, studied at Knox College, served churches in Barnoch Rocky Saugeen Chatsworth Norstein Patrbairn and North Mornington, and helped organize temperance forces in Perth County.
John Thompson six year old son of Mr and Mrs Thompson of York Road Guelph drowned when skating with a companion Eastman. Ice broke and both fell into the water Eastman kept afloat until help arrived but the boy disappeared and was recovered about half an hour later no inquest will be held.
The Women's Institute will meet at Mrs. St. J. Davidson's home on Friday at 8 p.m. A social night on Thursday features a dance at Leyton Wall with refreshments and a raffle. Admission is two shillings and sixpence under Duke of Devonshire.
