Acton police probe new downtown break‑in case
Acton police investigate another downtown break in at J B Mackenzie and Sons Ltd office where about 80 dollars was taken after a window was broken. Two Hamilton men, Nick Cote and Santo Macaluso, were committed to higher court on breaking and entering theft charges. John Baird had charges withdrawn. William Brown’s charges were dismissed.

Night School Enrolment Rises as Classes Resume
Night school enrolment climbs toward 130 as about four more students expected to join after classes that began in the fall and have been recessed since December. The increase follows resume of night classes next week, with ongoing attendance improving the total.
Acton Juniors Win Two Lose Two In Warm Up Tour
Acton Junior D skates through a busy exhibition tour before the league schedule. They beat Hamilton 7-4 and lost to Georgetown 9-8 while also posting wins and losses against the same rivals in air games. Ted Footitt Wayne Arbie and Ron Hilson led the 7-4 victory over Hamilton with two goals each.

Eden Mills carolers aid needy family Christmas effort
A group of Eden Mills young women sang carols door to door to raise funds for a local family in need. They collected about 10 dollars and another three dollars arrived after Christmas. The proceeds will be used for a good cause decided at the January Institute meeting. Several named singers contributed and a hospital update notes Mrs Ralph Neville’s return to Guelph General Hospital for another operation on her hip.

Acton athletes posted solid showings at Hamilton in the New Year’s road race and in Kitchener weightlifting action. Ed McHugh and Wilson Allenby led a 35-runner 10 mile senior field, finishing 17th and 21st amid a tight pack. Bruce Andrews placed 16th in the junior three mile, with Bob Alonby 20th of 21. McKinnon set a new light weight novice press record and won the best weight championship for southwestern Ontario clubs, earning a gold medal after about three months of training.
