A group of 150 young people led by Mr Fleming traveled from Bannockburn to Toronto on a National Electric Railway excursion. They toured stockyards and packing houses, visited a large department store, and watched a Parliament session from gallery seats arranged by M P P George Hillmer. The day ended with theater and praise for Mr Fleming. The Bannockburn Women’s Institute meets March 17 at Mrs Wilson Whiley’s Acton Crossroad.
Acton hockey team defeated a Toronto based Imperial Oil Co. squad 9 to 1 on an open rink. Ireland stood out in goal for Acton while Reid led scorers with four goals. Toronto players showed sportsmanship with few penalties in a high pace game.

Captain Maurice Felan, long time Oakville lake captain and former Customs Officer, died last Wednesday aged well into his nineties. Born in Limerick Ireland, he came to Canada with early maritime service aboard the Perseverance and Monarch vessels before retiring about fifty years ago. Survived by his wife two daughters and two sons, his funeral was held at St Jude’s Cemetery under Masonic auspices.
Provincial License Inspector F J Naphan seized a Belleville railroad car containing about eleven hundred cases of liquor from Montreal to Windsor. Court proceedings in Milton heard fraud theft and temperance act violations with several defendants remanded or sentenced. Additional cases involved theft of coal and a man jailed for assault and other offences.
Arthur H. Sydere, a longtime Ontario civil servant since Confederation and clerk of the Legislative Assembly for nearly twenty years, died Monday in Toronto in his eighty fifth year after strokes and illness. Premier Feretson praised his remarkable career and faithful service to the Legislature.
The Ontario Motor League outlines a programme in Toronto proposing a 35 mph speed limit or removal of limits. It calls for reduced membership dues, single branch yards, more road signs, and relief from glare headlights. Parliament may be asked to set 35 mph as the limit.
Barrie council chooses not to grant another poolroom license amid concerns over amusement venues. Citizens urged strict enforcement of regulations on all licensees and compliance with rules.

Canadian Girls In Training showcased a high standard program at United Church Young People meeting with plans for a scripture baseball game next week. A pretty wedding occurred in Toronto as Muriel Morris married Gilbert Cayley with reception and honeymoon to Acton. The Cameron Farm changed hands with Henry Wardlaw selling to Gilbert Smith of Milton. Wardlaw plans chattel sale before April and will move to Toronto. the historic estate has deep ties to Acton’s early settlement.
