Building debate floods North Halton board meeting
The North Halton High School District Board discussed building needs for Acton and Georgetown. A plan to remodel Georgetown with architect J D Kyles was rejected. $100 was paid for his report. A 250 pupil Acton Georgetown school at Silver Creek failed, others urged immediate plans, and a special meeting was proposed. Budgets for Milton Acton Georgetown were approved with concerns over transport costs.

McDowell Couple Celebrates Golden Fiftieth Wedding
Mr and Mrs John McDowell of Erin mark fifty years of marriage with a Sunday celebration attended by relatives and friends. Laura Elliott, the bride, is remembered along with guests from Georgetown Acton Brampton Streetsville and Orton. The couple moved to their present farm in 1914 after marrying February 19 1902.

Late King George VI Tribute Marks February Institute Meeting
The Silver-Wood W I held a February meeting at Mrs. D Williamson's home with nineteen members. They sang the Institute Ode observed two minutes of silence for the late king and noted members favored radio programs.

Struck on Highway Injures Hillsburgh Couple
Mr and Mrs Wallace Matheson of Hillsburgh were struck by a car while walking at night on the highway in Hillsburgh township. Mr Matheson suffered a fractured leg above the knee and broken ribs while Mrs Matheson sustained a broken neck and face injuries. Both were treated at Guelph General Hospital after initial care by Dr Witton of Erin. The car was driven by Bill Somerville and passenger Donald Barber, both of Erin.

Acton Council Hears Two Garage Closing By law Petitions
Frank Toth Jr. led a petition to forbid 24 hour garage service in Acton with signatures from non residents. A second petition by 179 percent of the town garage operators sought controls on closing hours. Council discussed Municipal Act powers, possible mandamus appeals, and considered a first reading of the by law amid debate over 24 hour access and operator interests.
