Three Cars Meet in Feb 10th Acton Highway Crash
Three cars were involved in a late February crash just south of Acton on No 25 highway. Allan Ross of Toronto and Bruso Cassarin of Milton Heights stopped to help after Crawford Douglas of Speyside braked to avoid the others and skidded into Ross’s vehicle. Damages to two cars were estimated at 100 dollars each, with Douglas and Ross sustaining 180?0 costs. The third car’s driver claimed reduced visibility due to unlit cars ahead.

Longtime Linotype Operator Earns Fifty Year Typographers Honor
The Free Press notes Charlie McCann who renewed his subscription with the paper and the New York Times. In December he received his fifty year button from the International Typographical Union at a banquet in the Robert Trent Hotel in New Jersey. McCann left the Free Press office after apprenticeship under H. P. Moore and has since worked as a Linotype operator on a New Jersey daily.

Truck Sideswipes Cars On Ice On Highway 7
A Tuesday morning accident on a slippery road near Silver Creek involved three vehicles. Mrs Thelma Cotton of Ballinafad stopped at the edge of No 7 highway, William Barratt's car halted nearby, and a Guelph City Transport Co truck driven by Gordon Bestward failed to stop, striking the two parked cars. Damages were about $10 to Cottons car and $150 to Barratts.

Model Aircraft and Club Activities Run by Actony Juniors
Trophies will be presented to the men’s volleyball league winners tonight as a new schedule starts. The boys’ and girls’ Hit and Miss schedules are finished with new series planned to begin immediately. Junior Handicrafts Club includes about 15 girls on Mondays and 10 boys on Thursdays, busy with marine plaster models. Model Aircraft Club has held two meetings. work begins on actual models this Saturday with over a dozen boys building them together each Saturday afternoon.

Damages Awarded in Acton Bus Collision Suit
In Milton court on Tuesday the jury found Gray Coach Lines 90 percent negligent and John Winters 10 percent in the death of Rod Hyder. Damages totaling 34 000 were awarded to Mrs Retty Ryder and her four children with specific shares listed. The action arose from the September 1 1640 accident on Mill Street Acton when Hyder was crushed beneath a Gray Coach bus while riding home from work. The verdict was delivered at 1 20 pm after Monday and Tuesday hearings before Mr Justice King.

Obituary: Ernest Claridge Dies After Brief Illness
Ernest Claridge, 66, born Scotch Block near Merlin Ontario, died February 3 at home in Merlin after a pulmonary thrombosis. He was found unconscious in his hardware store by his wife. survived by wife Maude Shepley and son Gordon of Thamesville, plus siblings and four sisters. Funeral held at his sister in law’s home with Masonic rites.
