Acton defeated Oakville 3-1 on Tuesday night in the first of the home and home games. Snowbound travel delayed fans and players, while Oakville fought to the third period before Acton pulled away for the win.
A stormy night could not halt Acton Tanners as they beat Oakville 3 1 on Oakville’s ice. Murphy and Marzo scored for Acton with Mooney assisting, while Oakville faded late as Greer stopped several threats and Good faced a tough defense.
The report notes two evenly matched one two punch. Marshall guards defense and covers passes well. Beck is improving while Win is mentioned as a continuing part of the action. Continues on Page Five.
Canada declares Education Week, with nationwide CBC broadcasts from Ottawa on February 24 and Ontario network programming February 28. Notable speakers include Lady Tweedsmuir and Norman Rogers, plus presidents of provincial teachers federations. Open houses urged in schools with the slogan Visit Your School.
A three day poultry course will be held March 6 16 and 11 in the Farmers building Milton. J E Whitelock notes the program is varied with staff including Dr Pont Mary 4 celsus J Pranels and W A Brown and T A Genson of the Federal Poultry Division Ottawa. Demonstrations will cover culling killing wax plucking grading eggs and other poultry topics.
Agricultural representative Jed Wintelock says testing under the TOUS Area Plan will begin in Halton this week. The work will start at the lake and move north in Halton Peel and Northumberland with federal Health of Animals Branch inspectors to be posted in Halton at the outset.
A brief memorial service was held Sunday morning at the United Church Sunday School for Mr Prank E Kennedy who died last week. Kennedy had long served as Assistant Superintendent and for a time as Superintendent, his work aiding the Sunday School effort and its continuation. The tribute was fitting and well deserved.
The Unity Men's Club held its weekly business and recreational meeting at the YMCA Wednesday evening. After the program the club split into four groups for a basketball tournament and was then entertained at the home of Mr and Mrs Thomas Watson.
Lakeside I O D E elects officers for the coming year at the Lakeside chapter meeting hosted by Miss Maryguerrie Symon. Officers include Regent Miss Robinson, Vice Regents and secretaries, with reports of a busy year and plans like the M R Maare memorial award.
O.H.L.A. appoints Bert Hedges as referee for tonight’s Oakville versus Acton troop championship in Acton. Hedges previously officiated in the same two-town series when Oakville Intermedi ate Lean won the group and later moved to Senior ULA. This is his first Acton assignment since that prior contest.
A Saturday Valentine social at the Murray Memorial YMCA gym features group contests a gallery of childhood photos led by Miss Oral Chalmers who correctly identified twenty four of thirty six. Y P W Watson G Cooper Frank Terry and Howard Norton staged a Japanese sword display.
The County Seed Fair at Milton on March 6 and 7, under Action Esquesing and Halton Agricultural Societies, draws buyers and sellers of wood grain small seeds and potatoes. Edwin Warrop, Chairman, notes an excellent program for March 7 with Professor Geo Batthby of Ontario Agricultural College and N J Thomas of Guelph to speak on dairy herd management soil Fertilizers and crop plans. The officers of three agricultural societies commend the forward step for county agriculture.
Acton Pabr Board met with decisions to keep Acton Fair dates September 23 and 24, despite Brampton Fair encroaching on the schedule. New committees and officers were named for various fair divisions including Field Crop, Booths, Dance, and Livestock. President G W Murray noted Acton’s honor in Kerr’s Ontario Association executive appointment.
Clarence Morley 1d-year old son of Milton, employed briefly at Canadian Spinning Mails, was pulled into a machine belt in Milton. He suffered a broken right arm in two places between wrist and elbow and severe shoulder muscle injuries, after being rushed to Hamilton General Hospital.
Officials discuss policy options for arena and public buildings. Representatives address meeting trust. Memorial Factory Building sold with remission of taxes requested by company. Council thanks fire brigade for their work.
Postponed rural league games were finally played Monday night with Eden Mills and Lorne Farmers tying 3-3 while York Road routed Lorne Rifles 6-0. Limehouse failed to appear in a second game awarding Brookville points. A meeting to discuss playoffs and league changes was scheduled at the rink.
The DYP U met Tuesday evening in regular session at the Baptist Church led by the Stewardship Group with Miss Jessie Coles as Convenor. Leonard Atkinson read Isaiah chapter 35, readings and songs followed by Mrs Mamie Masales and Mrs L Veldhuis.
Provincial official Joseph Allen was found guilty on a driving while intoxicated charge by County Judge Trevor H W Grout after the Attorney General's Department appealed a prior dismissal. Allen received one year probation and was dismissed from the Cooksville force after eight years of service. Crown Attorney A C Davis commented on the sentence suspension as common in Ontario courts and noted Allen faced license cancellation and fines on related charges.
Boxing and wrestling at Georgetown Legion tomorrow night February 21st. Euchre in the Parish War on Monday evening February 24th under Scout Mothers Auxiliary. Grand Old Tymye Carnival by Acton Legion next Wednesday at Acton Arche with a novelty program. Three hours skating with band for 28 cents at Georgetown Arena Friday February 31st.
