New Great Seal of Canada II Described in 18th Century Writ
A historical note explains the creation of a new Great Seal of Canada upon the death of a sovereign. The George II era seal bore the king seated with orb and sceptre, arms of Canada and Latin inscription. It was locked in a box in the under secretary of state of Canada’s vault and first used January 25 with Ernest Lapointe’s parchment appointment of Dr. Henry Laureys as High Commissioner to the Union of South Africa.
