Elections Nominations Fill Many Councillor Seats in Township Notices

Nominations reported across Nassagaweya and neighboring townships with several Reeve and Deputy Reeve positions decided by acclamation. Esquasing and Nelson Townships list acclamations while others like Trafalgar Burlington and Milton name multiple candidates for council seats and reeves in the upcoming elections.

Record Crowd Attends Woodside School Concert

A large audience filled Woodside School on Wednesday evening for a varied program directed by Miss Alfreda Thomson. She was later rushed to General Hospital Toronto for a mastoid operation, with recovery reported promising after surgery.

Acton Continuation School hosts splendid At Home event

Parents, friends, and staff attended the Acton Continuation School At Home at the Town Mall. Principal Mrs Leiteh welcomed guests as Miss Hall's Orchestra played. The program included a radio broadcast skit, dances, a one act playlet, and diplomas to past year graduates. Shields for academic work and Field Day athletics were presented by donors, with multiple Proficiency awards across grades and subjects.

Mrs Lucy Weavers of Stratford Dies After Ill Health

The funeral for Mrs Lucy Weavers was held Saturday with burial at Dublin Cemetery. She died at 39 St David Street Stratford after years of illness. Born Lacy Storey, she married Joseph Weavris who died eight years ago. A devout Catholic and member of St Joseph's Church and its Catholic Women's League.

Week of Prayer Services Arranged for Next Week in Acton

Acton churches plan the Universal Week of Prayer from Tuesday to Friday with themes at each church. Anglican Tuesday, Baptist Wednesday, Presbyterian Thursday, United Church Friday all start at 7 45 pm and last one hour. Ministers lead their own churches and ask residents to keep evenings free.

A quiet pre Christmas wedding took place Friday afternoon at the Baptist Parsonage Georgetown. Laura Audrey McMullen became the bride of Ivan Murray Kirkness son of the late Peter Kirkness. Rev E G Baxter officiated. The couple planned a motor luncheon reception in Acton and a honeymoon in Western Ontario before settling in Kitchener where Kirkness works for the Kitchener Public Schools.

Mrs Amelia Rose Hornby of Preston died under unclear circumstances after being found on the CN railway near Preston. A coroner's jury investigated the death. she was born in Puaslinch Township and resided in Acton at marriage. An adopted son Grenville survives. funeral held in Preston.

The Big Rush at Post Office Before Christmas

Postmaster Matthews and staff handled a record amount of Christmas mail, with the peak busiest days during the first four days of last week. Between 27 000 and 28 000 cards were hand stamped at the Acton Post Office from December 7 to December 24. The rush is over and customers praised prompt service during the busy period.

Acton Tanners Open Season With 6-1 Win Over Elora Juniors

Acton Tanners debut in Blore's arena with a 6-1 victory over Elora Juniors in an opening night match. Terry, Sproat, Runnells and Marzo lead Acton with solid scoring while Woods stopped Elora shots. Elora pressed in waves but Acton's defense and goaltending held firm as the crowd enjoyed the new purple and gold uniforms.
