Acton council approved arena ice use for the Acton Minor Sports Club two nights weekly and a 60 40 gate receipts split for potential OMHA playoff games. A Booster Night to raise funds was also granted. The club plans a wide program with about 120 youths aged eight to 18 and eight teams equipped.

Honeymooning Couple Survive Car Flip in Rural Crash
Mr and Mrs Thomas Edwards formerly Jean Longstreet escaped injury when their 1947 Plymouth flipped after swerving to avoid a deer on a rural road near Acton Dolly Varden. Police say the car rode the ditch struck a bank and rolled onto its roof. The mishap occurred Saturday around 6 p.m. with $400 damage.

Keith Robertson Reunites With Korean Battlefield Buddy
A former Moffat resident, Keith Robertson, met the buddy who carried him from Massacre Hill during the Korean War firefight. Private L D Kilmartin loaded Robertson onto a stretcher and guided him to a doctor as Chinese and North Korean fire raged. Joining them were Cpl L E Rintoul and Pte G W Robertson.

The Senior Auxiliary W M S Acton welcomed Miss Mary Ellen Anderson on furlough from British Guiana with a missionary family party. Daughters of Knox led worship with a flag ceremony, Explorers and Mission Band staged a pantomime, and carol singing followed. Anderson thanked friends and spoke of the missionary family in British Guiana before a social hour.

Group Committee Receives Donations for Hall Furnace
The Acton Group Committee for Boy Scouts Wolf Cubs and Brownies has installed a Gar Wood oil burner in the Scout Hall Hodenasawnee on school grounds. Donations include $21.68 from Mr. Wm Bracken and $50 from the Duke of Devonshire Chapter I.O.D.E. plus a $50 gift from the Scout and Guide Mothers. The Scouts and Cubs will continue paper drives to fund final oil burner payments and upkeep.

Mrs Taylor Celebrates Her 90th Birthday in Guelph
Mrs E J Taylor turned 90 with an open house at her daughters home in Guelph. Family attendance included her son William Patterson of Princeton and sister Mrs George Howard of Toronto, plus five children ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Born Eliza Jane Patterson in Nassagaweya she married in 1809 and farmed near Moffat until her husband’s death twenty years ago. She has been blind for two years but remains active and is Calvary Baptist Church’s oldest member.

Keen Municipal Election For Mayor Council PUC
Acton voters produced one of the keenest elections in years with over 65 percent turnout for mayor council and public utilities commission. Thomas Salmon won by 220 votes over E Tyler for council. Miss Eather Taylor topped the council race as the first woman elected to Acton council with two new members joining A Irwin and Rognvaldson. J Greer narrowly missed sixth place. N Cunningham secured 242 votes. C Wood narrowly beat P L Ware for Public Utilities Commissioner by four votes while E Bilton had 151. Results were delayed until nine o'clock after a heavy turnout across four booths at Town Hall.
