Acton to Host Ontario Short Courses in January
Elwood Johnston, president of the Halton Junior Farmers, cites a strong chance the Ontario Department of Agriculture will run its annual short courses at Acton in January. If enough applications arrive, a four week Home Economics course for young ladies and an Agriculture course for young men will be offered. Final decision hinges on applications by December 6. Gerald R. Graham leads the Long Term Pasture Competition organized by the Hatton Agricultural Society and Hatton Crop Improvement Association. County Council Eulogizes Warden Hillmer Tuesday
County council approved shifting hospital costs for Children’s Aid Society wards to the county starting January 1. A resolution raised the county’s rate for aid and named M. M. Robinson and W. O. Gilbert to school boards. Warden Hillmer was thanked with a $400 expense allowance and council approved other budget items.

Acton Factory Ships Equipment to South Africa
Ajax Engineers at Acton shipped twenty three cases of tannery machinery in three carloads to Port Elizabeth South Africa. The plant will be set up by native workers with cases numbered and sized for the new tannery. This marks one of Acton’s largest outbound shipments and demonstrates its range from leather works to machine manufacturing for foreign markets.

Rockwood Young Community Leaders Share Holiday Plans
The Rockwood scene centers on a Presbyterian W C TU meeting at Mrs. George Gordon's home with Mrs O. Ostrander presiding and Miss J Little delivering a Christmas message about Jesus saving people. The group sent a 50 lb cargo of books to Navy Leagues and heard reports on temperance education and school work from county officials. A Christmas program followed with music, drama, and a Santa visit, then social time and a congregational supper. Subsequent events included a wedding reception for Mr. and Mrs. John Glendinning and Mr. and Mrs. James Glendinning, and various local notes on visits, elections, and twin lambs.

The Woman's Association of the United Church met at the Parsonage led by Mrs L Ager with Mrs S Reid guiding devotion. No quilting this year. Christmas cards will be sent to sick and shutins. A short program led by Mrs G McDonald featured readings and carols with prizes to Mrs Bean and Mrs Reid. Rev A W Fosbury gave the closing prayer and hosts were thanked for hospitality and lunch.
