Quantic Retires From C N R After Long Service
Charles J. Quantic retires as superintendent of motive power and car equipment for the C N R after starting as an apprentice in 1900. He helped build the CNR main line in British Columbia and later worked on the Sudbury to Toronto line. Known as CJQ, he remains in Vancouver with Mrs Quantic, holding high seniority in the eastern district.

Britain switches to oil for power as London Underground plant converted
The Weasden generating station, supplying the London Underground, will be converted to oil burning. The London Passenger Transport Board says the change will save about 70 000 tons of coal, with cleaner and more economical working conditions.

J A Feliott Elected President at Plowmen's Meeting
The Halton Flowmen's Association held its annual meeting in Milton on December 14. Officers named J A Elliott as president with C F Picket and Arthur Diamond as vice presidents, J E Whitelock as treasurer, and a slate of directors across Esquesing, Nehon, Nassagaweya and Trafalgar Townships. The group reported 1948 activity, 124 members, and expenses of 764.17 dollars. A junior match with Halton Junior Farmers drew two teams for inter county events, and an outstanding annual match was celebrated. Films by R S Heatherington capped the program.

New Pipe Organ at St. Alban's Nears Completion
Installation of the new pipe organ at St. Alban's Church should finish this week and be ready for use this Sunday. A blessing prayer will occur before the service and an official dedication is planned for a later date. On Christmas Eve Miss Lynda Stewart will give an 11 pm recital before the Midnight Service.
