Acton electors, about 51 percent, cast ballots Monday on a civic centre referendum and band bylaw plus council and school board races. The civic centre was rejected 595 to 30, the band bylaw passed 453 to 182. Deputy-reeve race narrowed to Ray Thompson and William Wilson among five nominees. Public Utilities Commission seats retained by Everdell and Hufnagel. other candidates defeated. Ward results ranged from 55.1 to 45.5 percent turnout.

Large Barn Burns in Glen Williams Farm
A large barn on Percy Wagstaffe’s Glen Williams farm caught fire early and burned for hours. Stock including a dozen cattle were saved, but crops and implements were lost. Georgetown firemen battled the blaze as sparks flew and nearby buildings were wetted. Cars from miles around gathered at the scene.
