Acton Council Passes By-Laws and Appoints Officials
In regular session Councilor W. J. McLeod presided with A. Melgane and F. J. Davison as members and Reeve F. J. McCutcheon in the chair. The by law to appoint A Kirkness as municipal supervisor was read and approved. A town cemetery caretaker plan was approved for winter months, under the Town Foreman, with reimbursement to the Cemetery Board. Several by laws appointing a Town Foreman Chief of Police Assessor and weed inspector were read and passed. The Acton Swimming Pool fund nears 8000 with about 2000 to go, and business reports and grants were noted.

Membership Tea and Pins Presented by United Church Society
The Women’s Missionary Society of the United Church held its annual life membership tea at Mrs. Sirrs home. Mrs. G McDonald led the event with a program including a duet and readings. Life membership pins and certificates were awarded to several members including Mrs. Denny and Mrs. Mowat, with Mrs. Lambert honored posthumously. A candlelight lunch followed and thanks were given to organizers. An update on Waterworks by law and annexation plans was noted. Council discussed arena manager applications and concession bids. The Scout Mothers Association was approved for tender. Tax arrears procedures were issued to the Clerk.

Two Sisters Win Scholarships at Guelph Collegiate
Josephine and Heather Boyd top their classes at Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute winning the Ralph Ramsay Memorial Scholarship and the Alice Mutrie Memorial Scholarship. Both are daughters of Mr and Mrs J H Boyd former residents. The occasion marks the only instance of two members of the same family receiving awards. Lakeside Chapter Bazaar Draws Strong Attendance
Lakeside Chapter TODE held a successful bazaar at the YMCA on Saturday November 20 with booths for aprons knitted goods baby clothes and Christmas cards. A tea was served and tables were busy in the afternoon. Proceeds support the LODE charitable and educational work. Voting for local offices is scheduled for December 6 at Town Hall and YMCA starting 9 am.

Scouts Build New Home In Acton With Volunteer Help
Local volunteers gather at the Scout Home on Acton School grounds to erect a building for Scouting. By week’s end walls stand and rafters go up on the 27 410 building. A fireplace foundation is excavated and sheeting and flooring installed as work continues. Contributions welcomed through W Middleton secretary of the association.

Anniversary concert by Acton Boys and Girls Band marks seventh year
The Acton Boys and Girls Band celebrated its seventh anniversary with a varied program including marches solos and descriptive numbers. Organized seven years ago by conductor C W Mason the group grew from a small boys band to a larger ensemble with girls later joining. They earned honors at the Waterloo Music Festival and the CNE and hope to debut new uniforms before Christmas at their annual Christmas concert.
