Boy Injured by Car At Mill Main Corner
Four year old Jamie Widawski son of Mr and Mrs Walter Widawski of 2 Main Street North suffered a dislocated left shoulder and head injuries after being struck by a car driven by Donna Andrews 18 of Acton at the Mill and Main Streets intersection Saturday at 2 pm. Eyewitnesses said the child darted out in front of the car which drove west on Mill Street. He crawled to the curb and was taken to Guelph General Hospital after examination by Drs Brian Moore and Craig Hutchison. The boy underwent surgery for head injuries and a dislocated shoulder and is progressing favorably. A crowd gathered as Acton council had recently discussed a Department of Transport survey for traffic lights at the intersection.

Fire destroys barn at Blue Springs Nursery near Acton
A wind driven blaze last Friday engulfed the storage barn at Blue Springs Nursery west of Acton. The Swift family own the building and its contents including furniture from Mr Swift’s late father estate. Firefighters from Acton and Rockwood battled the flames as a second unlit vehicle and a gasoline tank were protected with water to prevent explosions.

Acton Rotary Presents Sells and Gray Circus Next Week

About 100 in the entourage will sleep in the park and set up the new white canvas tent by noon. Harness Maker George Edwards Marks 90th Birthday
George Edwards celebrated his ninetyeth birthday on Wednesday August 5 at the home of his daughter and son in law, Mr and Mrs Harvey Walters, Church Street Acton. Born in Woodville Ontario in 1878 he moved to Acton before the century. He married Minnie Statham on August 16 1899. His wife’s parents ran Statham’s Bake Shop in Acton. He once worked at a tannery before opening his own harness shop around 1910. The Free Press referenced his purchase of Geo A Black’s harness business in 1910. He lives with his daughter and has one grand daughter and a great granddaughter born last January.

Hob Wierenga of Acton, traveling south, escapes with minor injuries after the truck topples onto his car. the dairy truck belonged to Nora Turner’s firm in Hespeler.
