Esquesing considers own fire department costs
Councillor Tom Hill warned Esquesing council last week they would have to be prepared to pay to set up their own fire department in the present Esquesing Fire Area No 1. He cited nearby departments at Nobleton and Schomberg and noted firefighters are paid five dollars per call and a dollar per meeting. The committee will study other rural departments as Dr. Tom Hill urged equal costs across townships, while Dr. Patterson argued education costs should also be the same. Clerk K C Lindsay noted provincial legislation sets the framework. Also noted was Canada’s highway accident toll for 1966: 5258 deaths, 160,656 injuries and $650 million in property damage.
