Acton voters are urged to vote next Monday August 10. There are 88 Halton divisions. Acton has five divisions numbered 22 to 26 with polling stations at various local sites including Town Hall and YMCA.
Acton Park hosts a community concert and picnic inviting townspeople and district residents. From afternoon until 5:30 PM, attendees may bring picnic baskets to enjoy the band concert followed by a communal supper and social time in fine summer weather.
A reorganizing meeting of the Halton and Wentworth Fur Breeders Association was held at Waterdown Moral Hall. The group voted to rename as the Southern Ontario Fur Breeders Association and elected D Ellis president, Fred Rosd secretary treasurer, and directors D Gibson P Keller and L A McKart.
Mrs George Bolton of Orton enjoys a rare August Easter lily in full bloom. A single bulb has produced a stalk bearing 14 flowers, each seven inches long and five and a half inches wide, a remarkable sight after being in the ground two winters.
Mr and Mrs George celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a small ceremony and a reunion of relatives. The couple married 50 years ago at the henge OT The Bride near Bailinafad. Attending were Mrs Witham Kentner and Mrs Warne as bridesmaids with flower girls Mrs Hilts and others. Groomsman David Kentner was absent.
In Halton's 1867 election the Reform candidate Wm White faced Conservative Col G K Chisholm amid libel claims and crowd tensions. Four candidates sought seats for both Ottawa and Ontario, with suffrage limited to male property owners and a dramatic nomination meeting that collapsed the stand and drew over 1,000 spectators.
The 19K Scout training season began at Blue Springs Scout Reserve near Acton with 36 men and women from Ontario in the first Pack Scouters course led by Arthur T. Jackson. The old bell at Acton public school was lowered from its steeple and will be mounted on a cairn in the school grounds. An amplified bell will replace it to cue classes, and a new front porch is planned for the brick school building opened in 1892.
The Campbellville Women's Institute hosted a garden party at Athlete Grounds on Wednesday. The event featured a variety show by the Cathhy Gratton Lockeerermattes troupe with Lane Turner in decoration ranks and Helen Agnew receiving a best decor award. Prizes included tickets and a basket for Mr and Mrs Edrd Causen, plus gifts from local sponsors Gorter Bros. Dianne Briggs of Stoney Creek was named the first baby on site and Albert Schouten and family had the largest turnout.
A farewell gathering was hosted in honor of Mrs E Gibbons with close friends and teachers attending. Mrs McDowrs organized the event and noted warm memories and good wishes for the future.
