Halton County leaders reported a record TB seal drive total of 16 196 dollars for 1954, with 32.1 cents per person, the highest per capita return in Canada. The meeting highlighted a county survey on TB awareness and plans for 1955 including a travelling clinic, expanded education, and increased support for Mountain Sanatorium.
The Ontario municipal electrical scene features a Saunders Memorial Fund plea rejected by Acton Public Utilities Commission after the OMEOA urged a two cent per kilowatt levy via HEPC. A car rolled from a parking space in Eden Mills last Thursday, crashed through a guard fence, and plunged 20 feet into the creek. It turned a complete somersault and was hauled back to the road by the local garage where Mrs. John Funk of Eden Mills was shopping at the time. The extent of damage is not specified.
A woman's shortie coat with one glove and an imitation pearl choker were found near Silvercreek hill. Frank Onbeck of Georgetown RR 4 reported the items, which were taken to Milton district police.
Acton Junior Farmers hockey team was honored at a Bannockburn school banquet Monday night. President Kay Stanley and secretary Ida Archibald hosted guests while Miss Stanley presided. Glenn Scott received a leather wallet and key case from Charlie Thompson, with Archie Kerr’s orchestra providing dancing music.
About 45 boys attended a church parade at Knox Presbyterian Church led by David Dills Murray Scoyne and Gordon Ringler. Cubmaster Scoyne read the scripture lesson and Rev Armstrong spoke on loyalty to the boys.

Hilton MP Sybil Bennett asked the Commons to have CN Rail provide commuter service in Halton equal to Montreal. She noted the west Toronto area has only five local trains for commuting while Montreal has 22 for a larger population and urged fast passenger trains not used for commuting to stop for morning and evening commuters. She pressed CN to consider expanding interurban service due to population growth around Poronte.
Acton Y M C A ladies bowling team wrapped up their winter program with a turkey dinner at the Dominion Hotel last Thursday. Special guests Bob Brayshaw and Mrs Brayshaw attended and Mr Brayshaw presented the trophy to the winning team. Captain Mae Wilde thanked all members including Mae Dedels Mary Dedels Hetty Armstrong Marion Paul and Gwen Price. Mary Ewing had the high score with 350 and Marion Paul showed the greatest improvement from 35 to 211. The group then played a final game at the bowling alley.
The opening ceremonies of the Provincial LO DE annual meeting in the Royal Connaught Hotel Hamilton last week saw 49 standards carried by Acton chapters Lakeside and Duke of Devonshire. Delegates included Marguerite Ryder L Lakeside and L Agar Duke of Devonshire with B Mowat as official delegate. Ron Langford led Barkeside delegation and over 7000 attendees were present with Miss L Skuce of Milton re elected provincial councillor.
A disappointingly small audience attended Acton Citizens' Band final concert of the season in the public school auditorium. Mayor E Tyler presided and hopeful themes suggested future concerts. Frank Bean sang solos with George Elliott and Joe Seelen on piano accordion. Vic Carter and Fred Leece performed duets. Bandmaster Trott led with Rudolph Spielvogel assisting on a number.
The Halton County Health Unit announced the third polio inoculation for Grade 1 and 2 children will be postponed at least seven months. Grade 3 pupils will receive their first shot in the second week of May with the second dose four weeks later around June 13. About 1300 children are eligible. clinic times and locations to be announced.
