David Pelletterio of Halton was elected president of the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario, the youngest provincial leader and first from Halton. The Ontario conference at Guelph saw Dan Middleton named vice president and R Hilliard as secretary treasurer. Pelletterio, a 21 year old athlete and performer, has appeared in provincial finals plays and coached judging teams, with a track record in tractor driving contests.

Albert Henry Bishy a longtime Acton resident who enjoyed many friends died in April after a voyage and years of retirement living with his son in Red Woodge Sheguiatdah Manitoutor. He was a gardener who operated a greenhouse on Fairview Ave and served as caretaker of Fairview Cemetery. Survived by two sons George of Manitoulin Island and Alfred of Toronto. Funeral services were held in Little Current and Acton with several reverends officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery Acton with pallbearers named Gordon Currie R Spielvogel Geo Musselle A Clifford Allan Kirkness and E Roakes.

Bush Fire Halted By Local Brigade
A grass fire endangered a barn and a nearby bush on Wilmer Davidson’s fourth line farm Monday. Acton Fire Brigade arrived quickly with 400 gallons of water, halting the blaze before it reached the barn and bush. the farm well had run dry, but rapid water application saved the property.

Nineties Return As Gay As Ever Variety Show
The Rockwood Community Club presented a revival themed program on April 18 in the town hall. Fishermen Contest Opens May First For Trout
The Free Press sponsors its annual fishing contest to find the largest trout within five miles of Acton during the May opening weekend. The winner receives a year’s subscription to the town paper. Contestants must contact the office with length weight and the catch for a photo of the grand champ.

Longer Evenings Brighten Altar Time Change
The district will gain longer evenings after Daylight Saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday. Clocks jump ahead one hour shortly after midnight, and the missing sixty minutes will be made up September 28. Those arriving late to church will have forgotten to set their clocks forward.
