Gas Blaze Destroys Barn and Driving Shed at Clarke Farm
A fire half a mile north of Ospringe destroyed Barry Clarke’s barn driving shed and stock. The blaze began in the driving shed when a tractor kept filling with gas overheated, spreading to the buildings by 10:30 am. Loss estimated at 20 000 to 25 000 with livestock and grain damaged. fire brigades from Rockwood Erin struggled to gain control.

Town treasurer J. McGeachle reported 1952 taxes totaling $45,269.23 collected by Wednesday evening. Arrears include $1,430.07 for 1951 and $184.00 for 1950. The first instalment deadline is today. Total taxes to be collected this year amount to $151,598.40.

Two Fire Alarms For Acton Brigade
Two fire calls within two weeks brought the Acton brigade to three locations. A Friday tractor fire south of Acton near a bush threatened explosion risk until water from a firefighter's hose controlled the blaze. On Tuesday a compost-heap blaze beside a garage on the bowling green property was stopped by brigade water application before spreading further.

The United Church youth met Monday at 8 pm to re organize a Young Peoples Society. Twenty seven attended as Ken Bickel chaired and Annetta Van Fleet was elected secretary. A nominating committee was chosen to bring 11 officers for next week. A film Last Date educated the teens and everyone enjoyed pancakes after the meeting.
