Vernon Agnew won the silver medal and second prize for violin solo under 21 in Class 14 with the piece dicilienne. The article notes prior wins in vocal and violin at Halton, and his roles in Acton Citizens' Band. An error in a prior report credited Acton schools with an extra winner.
Acton Lodge 467 LO.L. initiates five new members and reinstates four. Guests Wor. Bro. Pred Norton and Wor. Bro. Norton Jr. of Glen Williams Lodge attend. Initiation led by Wor. C. M. H Masalea with a team of officers. Social time follows lunch.
Acton Public Utilities Commission gathered with full attendance to approve accounts and discuss power safety. They reviewed supplier payments, insurance, water heater promotions, daylight saving hours, three wire services at the athletic grounds, and Hydro Commission campaigns to expand consumption. Action on several items was deferred to a later meeting.
Joseph Dwyer of Oshawa, injured when his car crashed on the Toronto Guelph highway near Acton, has returned home from Guelph General Hospital. He was among five passengers in a collision with a Georgetown car. two hockey fans were killed. Driver Peter Opichany faces manslaughter charges.
Mr Geo Wilds renewed his Free Press subscription for the city’s ninth time, aging eighty three on his birthday. He and Mrs Wilds plan their sixtieth wedding anniversary next year, and he remains active and healthy, never having smoked or drunk. He loves sports and still follows baseball and games.
Four year old David Stringer crawled through a backyard fence on Martin Street Milton and was struck by a CPR train. The boy died at Hamilton General Hospital after officials including Coroner Dr C K Stevenson and provincial officers investigated the accident. The Stringer home backs onto the tracks and two other Stringer children were at home at the time.
A Pune Poem puzzle yields "Hoe is Risen" as the Easter message. Laura Johinston of Acton wins the solving award, with last week’s winner Wey. A new puzzle appears on Page Five and entries are due by Monday evening at Taz Pars Passes.
The Hamilton Conference Branch of the Woman's Missionary Society met at St. John's Oakville April 12 13 14 with Mrs E P Lanau welcoming delegates and Mrs T H Ackert replying The president Mrs James Laughland presided The program theme The Church featured a School for Leaders a Poster Parade and lectures by W T Brown and others Dr R Gordon Struthers spoke on evangelistic work in China Various officers were elected and commissions named including a 60 percent sales increase at the literature table The next meeting will be in Melrose Church Hamilton.
The Acton Baseball Club has appointed Matt and Tyler as managers for the season. Matt Tyler has fifteen years in baseball and will oversee preparing the team. Practice is expected to begin next week as younger players vie for spots alongside seasoned teammates.
The inquiry into the deaths of George Frederick and Hil son R. R. Lemmman of Oshawa, killed in a motor accident on March ?. It will be held in Acton Town Hall with Chief McPherson supervising witnesses and jurors.

The Raster Thank Offering meeting of Knox Presbyterian Auxiliary was hosted at MidaeL Wallace's home on Kaiox Avenue. A Mooretown wedding took place in Trinity Church on Saturday afternoon uniting Misa Anne Alexandra Abineon daughter of Captain and Mrs Albinaon of Mooretown and James Uache Sheldon son of Mr and Mrs Sheldon of Guilt Acton. Rev S Coleman officiated with music by Miss Jessie Morton Palnin and Enater lilies decorating the church. The bride wore a long white chiffon gown with bolero and veil. her mother wore a waist length velvet gown and carried a bouquet. The groom’s brother served as best man and ushers included Morley Preston and Thomas Boulton. A reception followed at the bride’s parents home and the couple will reside in Acton.
Mr R oN Brown has purchased the Sandy Mann farm east of Acton across the highway from Sunnydale Fark. The 150 acre property includes an old stone house and barn, a greenhouse built by former owner Charles Darvell, and a purchase price of 4500 dollars. Brown will run the farm in conjunction with Sunnydale Farm, with access from No 7 Highway and the house reached from the third line.
The ancient stone blacksmith shop at the corners, long known as Darbyville, is being destroyed. Debris is burned as the building is torn down. It no longer served general use though it was once a busy smithy and gathering spot.
Easter services across Acton churches drew large congregations. St Alban’s held Good Friday and Holy Week events with the choir and special cantatas while Knox Church observed a 6:30 am Enater online service led by Mission Rand. United Church welcomed new members and offered communion with a sermon by Stev EM Morrow, and church choirs offered special Easter music.
The Parm Women held their April meeting at Mrs Thos Storey’s home. President Mrs Bracken presided and opening exercises, business, and roll call led to a house cleaning hint. Reading by Mrs Brownlow and a duet by Mrs Bracken and Mrs Davidson followed, ending with Mizpeah benediction and a luncheon hosted by the hostess.

Gordon Vickers a trusted inmate at Ontario Reformatory Guelph escaped briefly Saturday afternoon and turned himself in at Mitton. He was returned to the institution where the release would have completed on August 3rd this year.

Bannockburn Literary Society held its regular meeting on Tuesday evening April 12. The program featured moving pictures under the direction of Mr McMian of Georgetown, described as educational, highly interesting and humorous. The session opened with The Maple Leaf sung by Mrs Roy McKeown. The group closed with the National Anthem, lunch, and dancing.
Douglas Brignall, grandson of Mr and Mrs J H Reed, Acton, dived into the Humber near the Old Mul, pulled 15 year old Vernon Thompson from the current, and helped keep him unconscious until aid arrived at St Joseph's hospital. Thompson, son of Charles J. Thompson, was treated and recovered. Brignall, a student at Humberside Collegiate, returned home soaked but unharmed.
Ontario plans to increase education funding with an extra 1,200,000 directed to elementary and secondary schools. Minister Dr. L. J. Bimpton spoke at the Ontario Educational Association convocation, urging higher provincial support and noting the need for broader access to schooling in urban and rural areas.
A long freight movement through Acton caused delays as a double header with eighty cars could not clear the siding at Acton station. Freight trains, all wood cars, moved in heavier than usual numbers that day, affecting the afternoon passenger Burn schedules.
