Acton MG A hosts Georgetown players on Thursday night with Acton winning by 41 points. Return games set for Georgetown tomorrow. visitors included Mr and Mrs Armstrong and several others.
The Scout Mothers' Auxiliary held a regular meeting at President Miu E J Haossard's home. Four delegates were named to meet with M G Al Hoard. Mrs Pargeter and Mrs Vustard gave readings. Mrs Van Goosen spoke on Lord Baden Powell. A word contest was won by Mrs Pargeter.
A group of six school children singing in a Massey Wall concert faced a mishap when the car driven by E WeDowell slid into a ditch during a heavy snow storm. The vehicle did not overturn and no serious injuries occurred. Four o clock this morning J W Jones retrieved the children at Drittanta.
Death notices report the passing of William McKeown of Acton Salmon Arm D C on April 7 and of Mrs Sarah VanFleet of Hamilton aged about fifty with multiple bereaved families listed. The McKeown family includes wife Gertrude Beddington and five children. survivors include brothers Robert Fernie BC and Chas W Acton. The VanFleet obituary notes a widow of Albert Van Fleet, residence 59 Murray Street Hamilton, with a large extended family and a funeral held Wednesday with interment at Hamilton.
Arthur McDonald and his son Ian are selling their Durham bakery to relocate with Mrs. McDonald and daughters to Acton next Monday. Art has served as Durham fire chief for years and resigns. He formerly worked with Henderson's bakery and with his brother in Hepworth. Mrs. McDonald now runs Edwards baking business in Acton.
At the Acton Community Y M C A the board approved the Acton Radio Club becoming part of Y activities. An amateur station will be installed with two rooms set aside. William Near earned a proficiency certificate, and seven months of Y activity show strong member use of the center. The annual meeting is set for May 27 with directors elected.
The sudden death of Annie Easterbrook wife of Tansley Barnes of Jot 21 Nassa Gaweya near Darbyville occurred Saturday evening during supper. Funeral Tuesday 14 attended by many, Rev. RN He Somerville conducted service, Ebenever Cemetery interment. Survived by husband two children and her parents James and Fusterbrock plus three brothers and one sister. Community offers sympathy.
The Christian Fellowship Group led the meeting with Miss Ruth Gibson as leader. J J Stewart and Hazel Wilson led the devotional. The program featured a saxophone solo by Bing Ramsden a reading by Nell McNabb and a vocal duet by Marjorie and Grace Gibson. The Morning Watch was the topic presented by Kitty Savage.

A Knox Guild group traveled to Guelph on Monday evening to visit St. Andrew’s Guild. The program featured an orchestra under Mr Spielvogel, a scripture reading by Mrs Urana McDonald, vocal solos by Miss Elizabeth Orr and Mr Eddie Jamison, and papers on Worry and The Art of Living Well. A bountiful supper followed, with thanks offered by Miss Irice and Miss ML Brown.
Announcement this week says Mr E G Warden MLA will assist Weston Education for the Principalship of Weston High and Vocational School. Worden has been Vice Principal for the past year succeeding Mr Alexander Wouson who held the position for 249 years. The school has 48 teachers and about 1100 pupils. Worden was born and educated in Acton and is a familiar figure to local friends.
The funeral of the late James B. Anderson, held last Friday afternoon, drew many friends from the district and beyond. The service at the home and grave was led by Rev. H. Bennie with pallbearers Charles and Pred Anderson of Acton, Victor Anderson, Nussugaweyas WIM Anderson, Miltony Hert Anderson of Brampton, and Stanley Anderson of Hornby. Interment followed at Pallview Cemetery Acton.
The Easter Thank Offering Meeting of the United Church Women’s Missionary Society was led by President Mrs. Barberee in a service of worship. Guests from UWimehouse Rockwood and other societies heard Mrs. Sinclair of Toronto speak on The Trend of Missions. A social hour followed with refreshments.
Three men Russell Weesinger 23 of Guelph Robert Johnson 25 and Charles Wil Mams 19 of Toronto were arrested after a car theft and break in. A blowout forced the vehicle into a culvert and officers fired warning shots as they pursued on foot. The suspects were captured near Mount Pleasant and No 10 Highway with help from a farmer.
The Easter Pageant titled The Easter Guest was performed at Knox Church Sunday evening. The Young Womens Auxiliary organized the service with scripture by the pastor and choral numbers including The Friend of All and The Touch of the Saviour Hand.
The Ester Easter meeting of the Knox Presbytery W M S was held Thursday afternoon with numerous new members welcomed. Mrs. Mow chaired, Mrs. Coper led devotions, and Mrs. Mulnprise delivered a lectures titled The Weight of the World. Miss Orr contributed to the event as refreshments were served by the Social Committee.
Acton High School hosted a Thursday literary meeting with judges Mia Taylor and B Hinton. Students performed a dialogue, readings, songs, a monologue, a recitation, a girl quartet, a dance, and a skit, concluding with a cabaret-style finale by Footlit and Wolmes.
The Provincial Secretary's Department dismissed Major Lorne Ceeby after 15 years as governor and his chief assistant Fred Topham amid two investigations. Jack Clark, head of the local Canadian Legion, will replace Daibey as governor, with Topham's successor unnamed. Changes take effect in May after an escape of Valmore Primeau from the jail.
The Dublin and Bannockburn Girls Supper Club held a season finale at Mr and Mrs A G Claridge home on Monday. Mothers and guests watched the girls present the appley ing supper dishes and a toast was given by Mrs Geome Somerville. Miss Edna Russell and Miss Margaret Brown spoke for the club. Afterward pro gressive sallhrs and games followed. Miss Annis Buckle thanked the Clarridges for their hospitality. The club will compete with other county clubs on Achievement Day in June.
