Stolen car recovered after 35 minute chase near Glen Williams
A Milton car stolen from Sarah Street early Sunday was recovered undamaged about 3 miles north of Glen Williams 35 minutes later by seven Provincial Police cruisers and road blocks. Constable Wylie led the pursuit from Acton detachment with support from Port Credit Brampton Georgetown and Milton. the driver fled into roadside bush and was not apprehended.

Halton Debating Team Reaches Finals in Inter-County Contest
Halton debaters Eleanor Mc Keown and Earl Snow won the fourth round of the inter-county debate at Milton High School April 2 and advance to the finals. They argued for volunteer charity to be funded by general taxation, besting Hastings opponents Marilyn Parkes and Kay Homan. Dave Pelletterio accepted a desk set and lamp from Halton juniors as Ontario president. The program featured musical numbers and magic by George S. Atkins.

Safe Driving Film At Rotary Meeting
Acton Rotary Club featured a safe driving film at its weekly meeting. Guests Dick Bean and Lorne Gamer explained the program and distributed literature. Joyce Farmer, Acton High School student, is this year’s Rotary adventure winner and will travel to Ottawa by May 3, visiting the Prime Minister and Governor General.

Youngest Speaker In Competition Shines In Ontario Event
Ella Jang, ten, of Acton was named Halton county public speaking champion at the teachers convention in Toronto, winning a $10 prize though not in the top three. She spoke about her Canada trip from Hungary, impressed judges and audience, and plans to compete again at the Canadian National Exhibition. Florence McCaffrey led the event as chairwoman, with Elia praised for her natural manner and earlier public school operetta appearance in Acton.

Acton staged The Light in the Window with Aunt Hope guiding visitors to Easter joy, featuring a large cast and make up by R. R. Parker. Hillsburgh offered Revenge is Mine with a modern set. Three Fires Hit Acton Twice in One Day
Three grass fires kept Acton firefighters busy on Friday. At 2 am the Baxter Laboratories sprinkler system triggered the alarm but no blaze was found. At 11:30 am a grass fire on the fourth line was extinguished and another grass fire at the Crescent ends triggered the alarm again at 2:30 pm. The report notes Ontario population density as 11 persons per square mile.

Sketch Plans For Proposed Fire Hall At Acton
Sketch plans for a new fire hall were presented at Acton council in a seven hour meeting. The building on Willow Street next to the town hall is planned as a single floor 30 by 65 feet with space for two fire trucks, a bunk room, furnace and wash rooms. An estimated cost of 10 000 dollars was discussed, with about 600 dollars on hand and plans to issue a debenture for shell work. The town hall site was favored over an Alice Street lot due to space and central location.

Funeral Services for William H Garner In Acton and Ingersoll
Funeral services were held at Victor Brumley funeral home in Acton on Saturday April 4 and at Keeler and Guthrie in Ingersoll on Monday April for William H Garner who died at his Acton home on Friday April 3. Interment was in Ingersoll rural cemetery. Garner aged 74 or 75 was born in Ingersoll Ont son of William and Esther Garner. He moved to Avonmore years ago, then three years ago to Acton. He belonged to the 1OCF of Ingersoll for 53 years and attended Acton Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife Francesa Corless two daughters Leila of Toronto and Jean Hugill of Ingersoll two sons Lorne and Bill of Acton three sisters and a brother. The Ottawa fire of 1900 left 50 000 homeless and caused over 10 million in losses.
