Congressman Foss praises the NRA and President Roosevelt in a interview on economic conditions. He says the plan regulates production and distribution to improve consumer access, expand jobs, and stimulate demand as America moves toward broader prosperity.
Mrs Eliza Morse 80 of Maynard died Saturday night after a sudden illness while entertaining friends. Daughter of Samuel and Mrs King born in Concord, she lived in Maynard 54 years and was a Methodist member. Funeral Tuesday at 2 at the family home with interment in Glenwood cemetery. Rev J Rex Shepler officiated.
George Hart 77 died Sunday evening at the Rest Home in Concord. He lived on 36 Wa Dut Street Maynard and leaves two daughters Mrs Albert Larkin of Maynard and Mrs Florence Estabrook of Hudson and a son Arthur Hart of New London Conn. He was born in Portsmouth NH and served as Maynard selectman. Interment was in Glenwood Cemetery after a 2 PM service conducted by Rev Matthew Vance. He was a member of several fraternal orders and formerly an overseer at the American Powder Company mills.
Miss Florence Louise Fairbairn of Concord married Franklin Edward Hartwell son of Mr and Mrs George W Hartwell at St Bernard church Sudbury. The ceremony was by Rev William H Finnick. Bridesmaid Mary Fairbairn and best man Clifford Hartwell. The couple will reside on Belknap Street after a trip to New York.
Blair Cleveland captured the Flag Tournament title at Concord Country Club on Sunday after planting his flag near the broak at the 19th hole. Harold Bowers and Berkeley Wheeler followed, with a list of players positioned around 17th to 18th greens and traps noted among scores.
Concord public schools reopen with an estimated 1350 students. High school enrollment around 480, Peter Bulkeley 500, and Harvey Wheeler West Concord 420. No new teachers added this year.
The Concord Yankees wrap their twilight season with a final home game against a foes night opponent. Local fans are urged to attend as the team seeks a last win and to honor seniors and season milestones.
Edith Frances MacWilliams and Aston Whipple Parker wed at the MacWilliams home on Central Street in West Concord. The ceremony, under hydrangeas and cosmos, featured bridesmaid Jessie Bell MacWilliams and best man Kenneth J. Parker. The couple plans to reside on Red Acre Farm Road, South Acton.
The Concord NRA committee held a meeting to elect leaders after Mrs. Grafton St. Lee Abbott's death. Elizabeth Brennan was named Vice Chairman and Canvass Committee chairperson, with Alfred Stone to draft a condolence letter. Others took on roles in publicity and canvassing as local and state headquarters contributed material.
About fifty aspirants for positions on the Maynard High School eleven train daily on Alumni Field. Coach Al Lerer must develop a new line and will especially need two strong ends after Tinkey Thompson’s graduation. The team shows lively interest in a pep that promises effort and progress.

John Anderson De Hay resigns as superintendent of the Massachusetts Reformatory effective September 1 after a 21 year association with the institution. He served in multiple roles including deputy and assistant deputy and is a veteran of the Spanish American War. He will relocate from West Concord to Hubbard Street Concord after selling his Central Street home.
Miss Dorothy Meriam Hunter and Edward Parker Burnham wed Monday at Mrs. Mil dred B Hunter’s home in South Sudbury. Rev Albert I. Raynolds officiated a double ring ceremony. Bride given away by Horace N. Burbank. After Montreal trip, couple to reside in Nashua New Hampshire.
The final of the Middlesex County League between South Acton and Littleton was won by Littleton at Jonesfield on Sunday. Croft pitched for Littleton overpowering South Acton hitters. Littleton scored four in the first inning and one in the second, then held the lead to an 8 inning battle. Final score shows Littleton ahead with multiple two base hits and key plays, attendance about 600.
Funeral services for Matti Pyrro 27 McKinley street were held at his home Saturday at 2 pm with Rev. Wiljo Heiman Worcester officiating. He is survived by his wife Katri Yyrro a son William and a daughter. Born in Finland he had lived here over twenty years and worked at Assabet Mills. Burial was in Glenwood cemetery with many floral tributes.
Concord notices an Evangelical Free Church event with Rev EB N Riersen, ex Boston church pastor and Bible Institute president, delivering an address at 8 o clock with a quartet of young singers.
Miss Helen Elizabeth Hayes and Frederick K. Jaques wed at St Bernard’s church Concord in a ceremony led by Rev John A Sears. Bridesmaid Ethel Jaques, best man Thomas J. Hayes. The couple plans to reside in Bradford after a wedding trip.
South Acton A A wraps a strong season at Jones Memorial field on Sunday losing the championship to Littleton. Manager Henry Tolman is remembered as a prominent bicycle rider and promoter of local racing, who once developed and led notable fast baseball teams.
The vead annual convention of the Young Peoples societies of the Norwegian Congregational Churches of Portland, Boston, and Concord met at the Evangelical Free Church Langstreet. Rev Olaf M Johnson welcomed attendees and Paul Guiliksen of Portland was elected president with Jens Omdahl as vice president. Aalvua Hamstrom and Esther Anderson were named secretary and treasurer. The next conference will be held in Portland over Labor Day weekend 1904.
Concord residents flocked to the South Bridge Boat House on Monday afternoon for an aquatic meet directed by Arcur DP Hospmer. The event featured canoe tilting contests with Patty Hosmer dominating amid a lively finish by Ralph Peterson and Ralph Steinman in the finals.
The Middlesex County Sportsmen’s Club hosts an outing on Sunday at the My Hara Hod acd Gun Club grounds. The event features a shooting exhibition with a 22 caliber rifle hitting small objects and air shots hitting eggs midair, followed by a half hour of thrills. A welfare committee coordinates publicity with many clubs participating including Maynard Rod and Gun, Billerica Red and Gran Club, Melrose Fish and Game Club, and Waltham Rod and Gun Club among others.
Maynard area homeowners may apply at the Home Owner's Loan Corporation Framingham office for relief from mortgage principal interest and taxes. Service is free to owners in Maynard Stow Hudson Sudbury Framingham Wayland Natick Sherborn Holliston Hopkinton Medway Franklin Wrentham Bellingham Ashland Marlboro Southborough. The Framingham office is in the Post Office building Franklin Street at Park Street.
Mrs. Fred Foss and her daughter Dorothy spent the weekend and Labor Day with Yankees, George, in South Sudbury.
Mary Richardson and Vincent Cann unite in a lawn ceremony at the Richardson residence on Massachusetts Avenue. Rev Appleton Gran officiates as family and sixty guests witness wedding with gladioli and ferns. The bridal party includes Irene Canny as maid of honor, Roy Cann as best man, and Lydon Catering serves a buffet reception. The couple plans a Canada and New York trip before settling in Carlisle.
At the opening of the schoole yesterday the Maynard pupils were registered with senior students and grades noted. Increased arrivals are expected as the register fills. John McCarthy is listed among attendees.
