Grade Crossing Tragedy Kills Three at Philadelphia Plant
In Philadelphia a grade crossing accident near the Atlantic Refining plant Friday night killed three men and injured about twenty others. A trolley car of fifty workers returning from the oil refinery was struck by a Pennsylvania railroad train as the train backed across the track. Victims included Owen Sweeney, twenty five, ground to pieces, Julius Bewar, sixty, and an unknown man who died later at a hospital. Many injured were taken to various hospitals. none believed seriously hurt. The motorman misjudged the crossing.

Captain William Matteray, a Chicago aeronaut, drifted from Geonto Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon in an airship. He landed in a swamp six miles southeast of Wolverine Michigan Friday morning. He was near death from exposure and fatigue but recovered and planned to return to Chicago. His flight covered nearly 200 miles over Green Bay and Lake Michigan before landing in Michigan.
