Escaped Town Butler Center in Early Iowa History
In 1853 Andrew Mullarkey and Col Thomas entered land where Butler Center stood and platted the town in 1855. A 1859 election for relocating the county seat failed, a 1860 vote moved it to Clarkaville, then 1881 to Alliaon. The Jeffersonian began in 1860, later renamed The Stars and Stripes, then shuttered. Also notes hotels, a 19th century bridge matter, creamery payouts, a McKinley cousin, reunions, weather plans, and various local visits and marriages.
