Clarence W. Byrne was recently tried and convicted in New York for failing to obtain medical care for his six year old daughter who died of pneumonia. He was sentenced Friday to 30 days in the county jail by the court of general sessions.

Gov. Johnson after consulting advisers decides to send personal representatives to the iron range to assess whether state troops are needed to restore order. Post Office Clerk Charged in Columbia Mail Robberies

Nell N. Hughes senior clerk at the Columbia Tennessee post office was arrested by federal inspectors on a decoy letter in a string of robberies at the Columbia office. He waived examination and posted bond for the next federal term. The case followed over a year of thefts involving small cash sums and stamps, and Postmaster Hughes was recently removed from duty by presidential order.
