J. W. Carey is reported quite ill with appendicitis. A flood of brief items follows on residents’ travels births moves and social events in Aberdeen and surrounding areas.
A son was born last Monday to Mr. and Mrs. Lee Berryman. A. A. Star Transfer Co. advertises hauling services. Rev. Charles McDermoth returns from Portland and Kalama. Mr. and Mrs. James Galaway move to Neilson flat at Seventh and K. Mrs. I. R. Watkins hosts luncheon at 3808 West Second. Equal Suffrage club meets at Mrs. J. H. Harper’s 510 East First. Mr. and Mrs. M. Campbell and son Alfred travel to Seattle for extended visit and Alfred seeks medical treatment. Dr. and Mrs. Arthier visit from Puyallup to see Mrs. Karshner. Miss Zoura Karshner undergoes appendicitis surgery at Aberdeen General Hospital and is recovering. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Paull plan several days on the Sound with Tacoma business and Seattle visit. Catholic church young ladies Sodality hosts a home cookite sale at Gabrielson & Molmer's. all food sold. Architect R. E. Burrows returns from Tacoma and Seattle. comments on Harbor country prospects.
Mrs. Jean B. Stewart sails for Scotland for a short visit to her old home. She is accompanied to Yakima by Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Stewart who stay to visit friends. In Pittsburg she will meet her niece Mrs. J. Wenn and her husband who accompany her onward. She plans to return to Aberdeen around October 1.
A Thursday evening fire at Mrs. Emma Kaatz’s boarding house on West Hume Street started from a stove pipe near wallpaper. Firefighters extinguished the blaze with minimal damage, but 35 canary birds raised by Mrs. Kaatz perished from smoke and water exposure.
Aberdeen High School's baseball team fell to Olympia High 14 to 4 on Friday in Olympia. The Capitals led early, scoring four runs in the first three innings before a costly error-filled fourth inning widened the gap.
Co. W. Barremore, a Chehalis county pioneer, visited Montesano last week while staying with his mother. He now lives in Hawanda California on a 35 acre fruit farm near San Bernardino County Gal.
A blaze destroyed the boom house at the Hoquiam Lumber and Shingle company mill on Friday. The fire, sparked by refuse fires, consumed rope, tools, and a large amount of clothing including rubber boots and slickers belonging to the crew.
The United States Engineer Tug Wilson arrived on Grays Harbor to survey the bar. The project will take more than a month. The vessel spent six weeks surveying the bar and inner harbor last year.
A fire destroyed the Bagshaw mill yard and contents on a Wednesday night. The idle mill, formerly the James Murray property, was owned by the Union Mill company of Aberdeen.
The Democratic State Central Committee is summoned to meet in Tacoma next Friday to call a state convention and nominate candidates for supreme court judges.
William Carlyle president and Judge James W. Orr general counsel visited Grays Harbor to inspect Carlyle Timber company holdings in Chehalis and Lewis counties totaling over 55 thousand acres. The firm recently paid more than 12 thousand dollars in Chehalis County taxes and has crews surveying land estimates.
The Union Pacific railroad’s attempt to condemn land for its new line to Grays Harbor clears the last hurdle as the Vulcan Iron Works case in Montesano is resolved. The dispute concerned right of way for the north side approach of the bridge, with prior Supreme Court defeat leading to a remand for damage assessment.
The state supreme court reverses a lower court ruling in R A Buell versus Aberden State Bank directing a new trial to determine who pays a $350 check Buell claims was forged. The court finds prejudicial evidence improper under the lower court ruling.
Ward Ross sued Northern Pacific Railway for 1900 in damages after a warehouse in Hoquiam burned last August. A Montesano jury returned a verdict for the railway company after ten minutes of deliberation.
