Germany's government under Emperor controls and bundesrat
A heated critique argues Germany's empire rules by birth and autocratic bundesrat oversight, leaving people largely powerless. It contrasts German, British, and American systems, noting the Reichstag elected by people vs monarchic structures. The piece asserts the emperor appoints officials and can dismiss them, while the bundesrat holds limited independent power.

Army Camels Not Successful Frontier Experiment
The Kansas City Star notes the U S government backed camel transport on the southwest frontier after 1848. Jefferson Davis helped push Congress to authorize the expedition which brought about 100 animals, later rising to 12, stationed at El Paso Yuma San Antonio and other frontier posts. Camels and drivers suffered seasickness, and soldiers blamed the odor and temperament. Major the camel killed seven mules near San Antonio and vanished from a high cliff. Watering camels at Sutherland Springs left the well dry and panicked locals. When railroads proved easier, the experiment ended as camels died fled or were stolen leaving tales of aging camels wandering deserts and even a white wild camel feared by writers.
