City Council Advances Street and Sewer Plans

At last night’s meeting the council approved a range of street and sewer projects including Washington street improvements, a 20 foot road on D street, and a library fund ordinance. Mrs Staka Saveljich files a federal complaint seeking 30000 from Lytle Logging and Mercantile Co of Porter Washington for the death of her husband Rude Saveljich a common laborer killed on the job. She says a scrap er’s cable broke when the engine started early at the foreman’s order and that the defendant knew the equipment was defective.

High School Commencement at Grand Theatre

The Grand theater hosted the high school commencement on Monday evening before a large crowd. The program featured music by Raymond Thayer and the Ralson's orchestra, a Girls Glee Club fantasia, a reading by Supt. H. M. Cook, the diplomas presented by Hon. W. W. Hart, and remarks by Gov. A. E. Mead with a benediction by Rev. G. W. Watson. Fourteen women and seven men graduated, the largest class yet.
