Fourth of July plans and Elma town progress noted

Elma celebrates the county fourth with gatherings and events while merchants and residents prepare. New homes, street improvements, and a Holly pump project mark growth as fires and safety steps dominate civic life. Local figures include Rev. Trundle Mrs. Weaver and Mr. Murray amid repairs and business buzz.

Miss Anna Dineen visited Aberdeen on Tuesday while ex County Commissioner Acheson of Hoquiam was in town on Monday. Wm Breedlove lost a valuable cow to milk fever last Saturday. Chas Veysey visited for business this week. C N Wilson returned to Snohomish Monday leaving Mrs Wilson and the children to remain here indefinitely. Chehalis County Logging and Timber Co plans to begin building a logging road north of town. Stom Noe left Wednesday for Libby Creek Montana where he works as an agent for the Great Northern Railway. The Macabees held a pleasant ice cream social Thursday at Odd Fellows Hall with about 150 attendees including Elma members.

Local Teachers Named for Hoquiam and nearby towns

Miss Georgia Powell will teach in Hoquiam public schools next year. Miss Daisy Davis and Miss Anna Ashman, both from Cosmopolis, will teach in Chehalis. L P Thornton and Fred Huntington moved their household goods to Hoquiam by steamer Harbor Queen, with their families as passengers. Stanley W. Smith suffered a bicycle fall and broke a rib, prompting a period of rest before returning to work with Dr Watkins. C F White traveled to Pendleton Oregon on business with Mrs White and daughter Marguerite, who was home from Annie Wright Seminary, Tacoma, for summer vacation.

Despicable vandalism hits Aberdeen Methodist church

Vandal(s) broke into the Aberdeen M E church Tuesday night damaging windows lace curtains and the pulpit bible. The pipe organ suffered serious harm with torn keys and a twisted top. Pastor Rev Chas McDermoth is widely respected and authorities vow a strong response to deter future acts.

Drowning of Aberdeen Youth Harry Petrie at Wishkah River

Harry Petrie an 18 year old employed near Grand Forks was drowned in the Wishkah River about two weeks ago. Found missing from McHugh's logging camp, his body was recovered near Parker Creek. Petrie, known for exemplary habits, had about 175 dollars saved and awaits his father's arrival from Victoria, B C, aboard a vessel due home yesterday.

Drowning on Wishkah River In Logging Camp Trip

A barge towing a donkey engine from A F Coats logging camp on the Wishkah river sank one crew member went overboard after the scow hit a snag near nine miles above Aberdeen. The missing man, named Norman from Michigan, was believed to be young and not known to the others as rescuers search the river.
