Irvine couple win damages settlement in North Aberdeen bridge case

City will pay Mr and Mrs Irvine 1200 dollars plus 102 costs after a ruling on easement damages related to the North Aberdeen bridge. City Attorney Arthur K. Graham noted the condemnation suit prompted a change in grade and pier location, with a waiver for damages executed to settle.

Gillette Wins County Graveling Contract Near Aberdeen

County commissioners awarded a contract to G. A. Gillette of Hoquiam for graveling over 3 miles of county road east of Aberdeen. The project starts at the east city limits and runs 17 000 yards eastward with gravel supplied by Independent Sand and Gravel of Aberdeen from the Chehalis river. Work to begin within two weeks, weather permitting, with completion hoped in six to eight weeks.

Brakeman Killed in Freight Train Collision Near Cosmopolis

The lifeless body of J. Baicaneii, brakeman aboard the Chicago Milwaukee and Puget Sound freight train, was found east of Cosmopolis by the No. 101 passenger crew last night. It is believed he fell between cars while moving from the caboose to the next car. Bailey, from Tacoma, belonged to Eagles Moose and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He was en route when the accident occurred. The body was prepared at White side's and to be shipped to Tacoma.

Municipality Expands Roads and Sewers With Investments

City Engineer C. W. Ewart reports over 400000 spent on street and sewer improvements this year. Since May 1908 the city added 39.85 miles of improved streets including asphalt brick and plank, and 49.33 miles of sidewalks with 21.53 miles concrete and 18.8 miles wood.

Trust Busters Topic Draws 800 at Empire Theater

Anna Agnes Maley of the National Socialist party spoke to about 800 at the Empire theater under the local socialists on the trust problem. She argued that competition leads to monopoly and that trusts gain power by controlling labor, prices, and legislation, urging workers to seize the means of production.
