An affidavit by Chris Hansen corroborates that councilman Hilts acted as a real estate agent during aAugust 18 1911 car trip to a new Aberdeen subdivision. Hansen testifies he filmed the party with a Kodak while Hilts showed and sold two lots to women, asserting no improper conduct occurred.

Aberdeen taxpayers face $690,000 rise in 1911 taxes

Aberdeen property is assessed at $4,668,690 for 1911 with total tax levy of $250,148.35. The increase, attributed to county railroad construction, raises Aberdeen’s tax burden by over $690,000 from last year, as rail firms such as Northern Pacific and Chicago Milwaukee Puget Sound are listed among major contributors.

Hilts Demands Council Seat as Aberdeen Debates Franchises

Former Fourth ward councilman R. J. Hilts, with wife and attorney, demanded his seat in Aberdeen Washington, a motion denied by the council. The meeting also discussed a Mutual Heating and Lighting franchise, a North Aberdeen bridge request, street lighting costs, and a series of public works items including a foot bridge, grade adjustments, and a bond ordinance for First avenue and I street.

Greer Guilty In Slur Case In Police Court

Percy H. Greer was found guilty and fined five dollars plus costs for slandering Mrs. Emil Pfund. The jury called the remarks a reprimand on future conduct and noted no direct evidence that Pfund made the quoted statements. Albert Johnson arrived home from the East after attending the National Rivers and Harbors congress in Washington and spoke at the Hoquiam Commercial Club luncheon about harbor improvements and the Governors special train journey.

Port District Commission Organizes in Aberdeen

At a meeting of the three commissioners elect of the Port District Commission in Aberdeen Monday Frank H. Lamb was chosen chairman and A. C. McNeil of Montesano secretary. Because the vote had not yet been canvassed and the board not legally formed, this was a preliminary session as W. J. Patterson prepared to depart for California. An advisory board was formed with R. H. Thomson Seattle Virgil Bogue Tacoma and J. B. C. Lockwood Portland. McNeil will visit Seattle and Tacoma to confer with Thomson and Bogue before the board meets to organize.

The basement of the new telephone building is being emptied of several feet of water. A gasoline pump is used to remove the floodwater from the lower level.

Chamber proposes rate reform over railroad discrimination

Aberdeen chamber of commerce debated a resolution charging the O W R N Co with discriminatory freight hikes on hay grain flour and mill feed harming Grays Harbor. The plan calls for parity with other roads and sending the resolution to state officials and allied groups. County commissioners discussed Westport road plans and forest reserve queries.

Schools Close Tomorrow for Holiday Break
