Junk dealer from Tacoma arrested over brass theft scheme
W Smith of Tacoma, a junk dealer active in Hoquiam and Aberdeen, was arrested after allegedly stealing a barrel of brass fittings from National Lumber and Box in Hoquiam and selling them in Aberdeen for 35 dollars. A junk dealer who bought the fittings tried to stop payment on his check, but it was cashed. Smith was taken to Hoquiam that evening. He had operated in junk at various times and appeared well dressed.

Three Slight Fires Plague City Fire Crew
The fire department was summoned Sunday afternoon by a chimney fire at J. T. Elson’s home 301 West Fifth Street. A second small house at 815% West Heron Street, owned by Arthur Portier and occupied by a colored family, burned with trifling damage. A third chimney blaze last night on Hume Street between G and H also required response.
