An Aberdeen man, Ben Oppenheimer, released after nearly eight months for false pretenses, threatens to sue a witness and the Herano editor. The Harbor press cites his long crooked record from Montana to the coast and notes past checks and small collections. Lumbermen will meet.
The Pacific Coast Lumber Manufacturers Association will meet at its Seattle headquarters on the 21st to discuss Northwest trade conditions. Secretary Beckman says car weights remain unsettled but expects a satisfactory arrangement, with roads likely to adopt weighing cars locally. Negotiations on car stakes weight reductions continue with the interstate commerce commission.
Hoquiam April 14 The new sawmill of the Hoquiam Lumber and Shingle company began operations Thursday morning. The two year construction yields a modern mill with a future capacity over 200000 feet daily. The firm holds extensive Chehalis County timber and runs the largest shingle mill on Grays Harbor.
A Hoquiam based option on 64 000 acres of timber land near Montesano, valued at about 2 000 000 dollars, was not closed due to estimate disagreements. The land is young timber near Grays Harbor and Willapa Harbor and could fetch much higher prices in time. Local constable Lanorgan touts Chamberlains Cough Remedy for colds and coughs with Evans Drug Co selling it.
Statements from Monte sano's two banks indicate strong growth and healthy liquidity. The State bank reports deposits of 321 644 with 86 744 cash on hand and due from other banks, while the National bank shows 126 309 deposits and 65 482 cash and due from banks.
