Memorial Service for Winder Division Held at Abbeville Baptist Church

The John H. Winder Division of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers held its annual memorial service at Abbeville Baptist Church. Dr. Louis J. Bristow spoke on the organization’s fourfold foundation and warned of modern Spiritist messages while urging members to live soberly and morally for both earthly life and eternity. A male quartet and organist Victoire Howie assisted, with a notable prelude and offertory.

Dr Robert Robertson Preaches in Abbeville Sabbath

Dr John Robertson formerly of Glasgow preached at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Abbeville to a large congregation. He served in Glasgow and Minnesota before WWI, later entering the British Army and serving at the Somme. His hour long sermon wove wartime experiences with the Prodigal Son, focusing on Jesus. He plans a return visit in the fall.

Mrs Cobb of Fort Pickens Dies in Abbeville

Rebecca Cobb aged 65 died at her Fort Pickens Sabbath home on June 13 at 3 PM after longtime illness. Widow of an early husband, she was the mother of Parker Cobb who died two months prior and Thomas Cobb now sole survivor. Funeral at Methodist Church 11 AM with interment at Long Cane.

Abbeville Mourns Dr John Lyon In Ill Health Return

Dr John Lyon of Greenwood, Abbeville native, has fallen seriously ill after an examination at Johns Hopkins. Despairing prognosis led to his return home under Dr Blake from Baltimore. Washington relatives were advised he was growing worse as friends hope for recovery for the physician and city leader.
