The Jefferson Bible once stored at the Smithsonian has triggered a flood of requests from senators and the public after being photographed and reprinted. An ad in a well known magazine offered it free if readers petition a senator, prompting mass inquiries and a plan to print more copies. Also recounted is a Fenian raid anecdote about Colonel Albert Clarke and his hat taking bullet holes while he escaped danger.
