The Hear inet Board of Trade heard deputations from Pree Harting and associates on CN R B and G T P projects. They discussed the Yorkuton smelter terminus, a 60 mile gap route to Sturgiowod Hudsons Re junction, water supply, and railway freight and passenger service plans including a daily Regina service and weekend Labsot link. Sergeant Major C A Pusey of the Canadian Engineers plans a Sept 5 arrival to recruit in Winnipeg for 1500 sapper and driver positions. Draftees leave weekly for Valcartier for six weeks training, then two to three months more before France. Recruitment offices report demand for operators, carpenters and drivers at 242 Main Street Winnipeg.
The Sth Battalion ranks third in the IW honors list, a high compliment to Yorkton as a company recruited there and affiliated with the Sth at Valcartier.
All departments of Yorkton Public Schools will resume classes on Monday August 28. The opening is overseen by the principal with arrangements to begin the new term and resume full school activities in the northern district.
Yorkton hosts a flower show with exhibits from the Saskatoon Horticultural Society, proceeds to Red Cross Society. Exhibitors urged to donate cut flowers and vegetables. Friday opening at 4 p.m. by T H Garry M L A. L C D E serves refreshments and Yorkton Band attends. Admission 10 cents.
The obituary honors Sir Victor Horsley who died of a heart stroke while serving in Mesopotamia.
