Australians in Canada and the Australian emigration wave
The article notes a sharp Australian depopulation driven by socialistic labor policies. It cites a population drop since 1891, with 125000 lost in Victoria over a decade and 16000 leaving New South Wales in six months. It warns the outward steamship market is booked months ahead. It says many emigrants are tradesmen and farmers, with some returning to England or moving to Canada or South Africa.

Mackenzie Liberal Club debated free trade risks in Toronto
At Prospect Hall Stapleton Caldecott pushed against the present protective taxing system claiming manufacturers impose heavy 20 to 30 percent charges on machinery hurting farmers while profits stay with the few. He urged free trade and mocked manufacturers loyalty as lip service. The casualty count of stray dog bites in New York rose as heat and food shortages worsen conditions. Rumors of the pope’s death reached Madrid but he doubted the omen. Miss Mary Van Horne, Sir William Van Horne’s youngest sister, died in Montreal on Monday.
