Ymir Hive Forms Under Mrs Minnie Witchie Leadership

Government caucus unveils first instalment of railway policy

A Victoria special to the Tribune reports the caucus approved the initial railway plan for Kootenay Central and the Columbia & Western extension from Midway to Spence's Bridge, about 450 miles, to be built by the CPR in five years. Subsidy of 8500 per mile on completion of ten mile sections, with initial assessment of 84,000 per mile for five years, rising to 810,000 thereafter. A second instalment promised Monday may push a land grant of at least 15 000 acres to Grand Trunk Pacific, backed by Liberal votes. Times and Colonist urge aid for Pacific cost end.
