Smith Valley readies for a large Topaz lake celebration next Saturday with a well funded plan. A Wellington meeting reported progress, a fire pit barbecue, amphitheater seating for 2000, 200 cars, and a Reading Garage venue for the event. School and civic groups coordinate tickets, registrations, and hosting duties as locals travel from nearby towns.
Yerington becomes a bustling hub as Topaz hosts a county wide celebration on Saturday September 16 with a holiday declared by the mayor. an estimated 1500 attendees from Mason and Smith valleys reno carson and nearby towns are expected. activities include a 1 pm opening program a 2 pm gate opening 4 lyon county high school girls and a 9 pm Wellington dance. facilities include a rest room a registration booth and musical performances by the Stewart Indian School Band and possibly a Yelington band. attendees advised to arrive by 10:30 am and drive via Wilson canyon with caution on a narrow route from Carson and Bridgeport after 3 pm.
Federal Prohibition officers arrested two Smith Valley men Dunn and Baker, alleged owners of a large still near Wellington. They appeared before Judge Pierce who fixed bail at 1500, which was posted. Several local residents are named in surrounding notes and plans for land sales are discussed with new payment terms proposed by San Francisco landowner Mr. Saroni.
Proclamations naming October 2 to 9 as Fire Prevention Week and altering a quarantine order were issued by Governor Boyle. California sheep movements into Nevada are restricted, with health certificates or disease-free declarations required. The proclamation cites escalating fire losses, urging every effort to reduce fire hazards and prevent needless devastation.
In Mason and nearby areas, residents report visitors from Ione California and Grand Rapids Michigan. Plans unfold for a Ditch Jubilee on October 14 with the Women's Club at Sprague's Hall, celebrating the canal's passage and bringing regional benefits.
Fire Chief Kelly led a week long effort to clear Yerington business areas. The Main street alley had become a fire menace due to dense rubbish and risks rise with dry grass. He urged owners to burn small patches promptly to prevent large area fires. Attorney H Pilkington returned from Reno duties on Tuesday.
Ludwig expands in Nevada at Ludwig deposit with a 150 ton daily refining plant lease to Martin Oldball. The project includes gypsum mining on Nevada Douglas Copper property, with 3000000 tons blocked out and 10 workers now on site, rising as construction advances. The Copper Belt railroad will haul material for the plant amid a growing regional gypsum market.
Engineer Brooks representing Stra ham and Bishop arrived last week to push paving of Main street. Workers build a cement warehouse at Yerington depot and haul material by tracks to the street. Paving will extend curb to curb at intersections, city to cover that cost. full street likely to crack before concrete pours. Wim. Gibbs McAdoo joins Lyon County Farm Bureau as many Nevada state candidates align with the bureau. Mrs Frances Friedhoff of Yerington sold memberships and received a bronze medal from Mr McAdoo for her bureau service. Alfred and John Charts, a Carson-based law firm, visited Yerington Tuesday by auto.
Judge T. Hart presided a short court session addressing the Wing vs Anetin election contest to revise returns giving King a majority. Sept 20 sets for the contest and naturalization matters. Divorces granted Heike to Mbt With and Mrs Leona Barr from Robert Turr, Barr allowed to resume maiden name, and Phinner named administratrix of Geo Plummer estate.
Washoe County Builders Exchange adopts a resolution affirming strict neutrality toward the Southern Pacific Central Pacific unmerger and says it is improper to influence the U S Supreme Court the Interstate Commerce Commission or the Nevada Public Service Commission before a hearing. It expresses confidence that these bodies will act fairly after full hearings with all interested parties represented.

Mr N B Loomis of Oakland California visits relatives in Yer ington. Mrs Loomis formerly Miss Stone Downing served as stenographer in the Yon county courthouse. Mr Loomis previously worked at the smelter at Thompson.
