West Side Canal Progress Accelerates Across Valley

The West Side Canal Company reports rapid progress from Wilson Canyon toward Nordyke with a steam shovel cutting 600 feet daily and nearly three miles completed. The canal will run west of the Yerington depot through Gelder property, expected to reach Mason Pass road in five months. Club Favors Road Through Churchill Canyon

At a Yerington Commercial Club meeting about 70 members mostly farmers protested Nevada potato quarantine. The club backed building a road from Wabuska through Churchill Canyon to the Overland trail to cut upkeep and avoid the Chiton grade. A committee including Kelly Snyder and Coddington will present to County Commissioners with Snyder reporting an auto survey showing possible river crossing and low cost.

Yerington to be canvassed by Womens Club and Parent Teachers Association to raise books for a cooperative public library housed in Farm Bureau offices. About 60 volumes from the Oak Club moved in. committees will cover quarters led by named members with aim of a county library.

Bridge Club Meets at Professor Hill's Home

The Bridge Club gathered Saturday November 12 at Professor Hill’s Nevada Street home. Miss Ella Swanson hosted, games lasted to five o’clock with refreshments. Mrs Nesbit won high score, Miss Queen low. prizes awarded to the two ladies. Topaz Reservoir Project Nears Finish in 30 Days

Water began flowing into the Topaz reservoir on October 27 from the West Walker River. Inflow rose from 40 to 70 feet per second as concrete work in the outlet tunnel nears completion. The lake stands ten inches above the tunnel sills with 200 feet remaining in a 2100 foot tunnel. The weir is finished and a cofferdam is under construction as excavation for the two mile outlet canal proceeds. The project awaits approval from district directors within about 30 days.
