Water levels peak on Walker River and threaten ditches
On Wednesday night the Walker River reached its highest level in years with the upper Yerington bridge carrying 5 000 to 6 000 second feet and water flowing on the west side. Dikes and treadgates were washed out, land flooded, and crops damaged on several ranches. Concerns spread about Twit Lakes dam safety though not confirmed. Water receded slightly afterward as snowmelt continued.

Douglass Tailings to Be Cyanided
James E. Johnston of Los Angeles will exercise an option on the Douglass tailings near the Carson River below Dayton and has begun building a plant to extract copper and base metals from about 400,000 tons of Virginia City and Sixmile Canyon tailings. The project, using a washing process before cyanide tanks, aims to profit after past failures. The present agreement pays 1.24 cents per ton, a historical high of 50 cents per ton years ago.

School Architect Ferris Brings Reno Plans to Ashland
G A Ferris a Reno architect arrived yesterday with Calder and Ward. He specializes in school buildings and has designed two Reno schools now built. His plans for two grade schools at 47000 each and a 125000 high school were accepted. He drew plans for a 100000 schoolhouse under construction at Ashland and a 516000 library there. His school plans have been adopted in Colorado and California.
