The American Resolute defeated the British Shamrock by nearly 14 minutes over a 30 mile course in New York. Destructive Verdi Lumber Plant Fire in Verdi
A Sunday afternoon blaze destroyed the Verdi Lumber Company factory in Verdi causing about 800,000 in damage. Seven Southern Pacific freight cars loaded with lumber were also burned, with losses near 30,000. Nearby residences and a shanty sustained about 200 in damages. Insurance covers the Verdi Lumber Co, the SP cars, and a private house.
