Greenwood Copper Company Starts Operations in Nevada District

The Greenwood Copper Company, incorporated by E. Greenwood and associates for 1,000,000 shares, begins operations in Nevada. E. Greenwood serves as President and General Manager with P. L. McCreary as Vice-President and FE. S. Boulich as Secretary. The main office is in Yerington and development at the northeast extension shows promising 10 percent copper in a shaft reaching 65 feet, with a tunnel planned to reach deeper.

Divorce Granted in Gallanar Case by Desertion

District Court proceedings show a decree of divorce by default in Kate Gallanar versus Frank E. Gallanar with desertion cited. Demurrer in Mason Valley Mines Co versus Whitacre to be submitted on briefs in a damages suit arising from a faulty medical job after mine injury. Non-suit denied in Antonovich versus Butulia. Lee versus Lee argument date set. Gaun dee versus Cohn et al continued to March 12, 1914. Court in session today.

Copper supply shifts show US drop against global demand

The Boston News Bureau notes near term copper weakness with demand muted in Europe and America while prices hold at 14% certs. It highlights a 1914 start stronger than 1913 but a 12,000,000 pound drop in world visible supply, and a 4,000,000 pound US decline offset by foreign decreases. January 1913 saw a large rise in world visible. 1914 shows a contrasting fall. US surplus fell by 4,000,000 pounds. foreign visible declined by 8,000,000 pounds.

J. K. McDonald Found Dead in Yerington

Carpenter J. K McDonald was found dead in his bed in a city barn by Fred Williams. A coroner's jury found death from natural causes likely heart related. He had been in Yerington months, Canadian by birth, about 35 or 46, with no known relatives on the coast. Undertaker Phipps to bury at county expense tomorrow. He had last worked at Smith Valley mine and had been unemployed since. Mr J E Gelder left for Reno to fetch Mrs Gelder returning to Yerington. Mrs Gelder has been east and in Colorado months.

Entertaining Night in Yerington at Odd Fellows Theater

The Odd Fellows Mason Valley Lodge No 34 hosted a sold out event at Rink Hall with an orchestra ensemble and performances by Prof Durand, Prof Ricksecker, Frank Hanson, and Bertram Hill. A Hebrew character act, a farce, and a moving picture delighted crowds followed by a lengthy dance into the early morning.

Power Plant Plan From Dayton to Tailings Reservoir

The TR, G. E. Co. will build a four and a half mile branch line from Dayton to the old Douglass tailings reservoir below Su tro. Los Angeles workers are organizing a plant to process the tailings and have determined they need electric power for operation.

News of Laureston R. Ames 68 dies at home in Smith Valley after months of illness. A Civil War veteran and longtime Mason Valley Odd Fellows member, he officiated by request at his own funeral. services held with Lodge from nearby towns. Survived by wife Susan Hawley Ames and daughter Mrs. C. C. Tidd, plus four Maine brothers and relatives in California. United States Commissioner for the district at death.

Chief Namana Visits Piates Leader at 85

Captain Dave Namana 85 a hale Piates chief from Unionville Humboldt born 1829 by 1879 led Piates after Natchez. He carries a large silver medal given by the Indian Department in 1888 for keeping peace between Indians and whites. He spoke with Piute friends and local officials during his Yerington and Schurz visits.

They report encouraging results and believe a valuable property may be developed southwest and east of the Smith Valley area. They expect significant activity in the spring and summer.

Doctors Remove Appendix at Yerington Hospital

Mrs. Albert Marker underwent an appendicitis operation performed by Drs. Leavitt Brown and Sinclair at Yerington hospital last Sunday morning. The procedure was very successful and Mrs. Marker is recovering rapidly. She is sister to Mrs. Leavitt and Mrs. Fred Burner, from Lovelock, visiting here for three to four weeks.

Infant Dies Near Yerington Funeral Held for Hilbun Girl

The fourteen month old daughter of Mr and Mrs James Hilbun died Wednesday at their home south of Yerington after weeks of illness. The funeral was held Thursday with Rev Summers officiating and many friends offered sympathy to the grieving parents.
