Children Celebrate Days With George and Abe Birthday Program

Yerington pupils produced a large program in honor of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The event featured a military drill by sixteen intermediate boys, a Washington chorus, primary girl performances, and recitations. Death of Frank Rivers Pioneer Resident of Smith Valley

Word from Los Angeles reports the death of Frank Rivers a Smith Valley pioneer who first came to Nevada in 1863. The Michigan native aged about 74 left Smith Valley in 1904 moved to Los Angeles where he died after a life hauling wool and mining support in Carson River Dayton El Dorado Canyon and Virginia City He leaves a widow and three daughters. Funeral was held February 20 in Los Angeles with burial in Rosedale Cemetery.

H Pennington Germ Manager and Na tive Copper Mining Co director visited Yevington on business this week. The firm has promising elements across the river from Yevington and has done development work. More workers will be added, ore will be sorted for shipment to the smelter, expected to average 10 percent by sorting, and plans include installing a hoist for deeper mining.

Grand Jury Meeting at Yerington Orders Court House Review

Grand jurors met in Yerington after postponements to select a foreman G W Webster and consider complaints against School District No 9 trustee H Pilkington. Eikner Case Opens in Nevada District Court Trial Begins

District Court in Yerington opens for the murder trial of Dr. Eikner in the killing of W C Otter. Jurors are drawn, excused, and ordered to appear, with 12 sworn for trial as 73 more summons issued. jury selection continues amid high school attendance and inmate presentation. The defense includes S W Belford and T F Hamer. the state is led by District Attorney John Lothrop with N W Willis and Rev R L Waggoner assisting. Dr Eikner remains in county jail under guard since October.

Old Dayton Resident Dies in Denmark Native at 75

Old resident Andy Nelson of Dayton died at home last Sunday night after a period of ill health. A native of Denmark aged about 75, he followed teaming for many years and was involved in the Como mining property early in life. He left enough to fund a respectable funeral and some Dayton property. His funeral was held in Dayton on Tuesday with large attendance.
