John A. Beemer, engineer of the Walker River Irrigation District, was named Water Commissioner to oversee water distribution on the Walker River under the court decree. The Gentlemens Night event planned by the Woman's Club for Saturday February 18 is postponed to a later date when roads are in better condition. There will be no afternoon club meeting on that date.
Lehman Caves National Monument Declared in Nevada
A 593 acre area in Nevada near Baker is set aside as Lehman Caves National Monument by presidential proclamation on January 24. The site, six miles west of Baker at 7200 feet, preserves stalactites and stalagmites with names like The Pearly Gates and Palace of the Gods, and will receive visitor improvements while remaining part of the national forest. Ed Knemeyer, a farmer from the Creamery district, was visiting town today.
