Man Dies by Self Inflicted Gunshot at Prospect Road House
Wm Barnes Paine died Wednesday afternoon after firing a .38 revolver into his mouth at the Prospect road house. He had been brooding over imagined troubles, and a coroner's jury found the death self-inflicted. Paine was a member of the San Francisco Aerie of Eagles No. 5 and his funeral was held at their hall with ceremonies, followed by burial in Yerington where friends gathered to await resurrection.

Sam S. Arentz, superintendent of the Nevada-Douglas Copper properties at Yerington, says operations are advancing well. He notes expansion in the Ludwig division with rich carbonate ore and a widening enrichment zone, along with extensive sulphide work on the 550 and 650 levels while surface work ends for winter. labor is plentiful as other camps tighten. The Douglas division shows a long main tunnel, a 100 foot winze, and persistent ore development with copper values mostly in carbonates. no stoping is underway and ore is shipped from development work. Yerington shops and bank remain cash-active and the town prospers with new permanent improvements.

To the Mines Am, Wishart departed Thursday for Pine Grove where he has a lease and bond on the Black Horse mine. Development work is opening up a good property with a 25-foot shaft showing a ledge 2 feet wide and an assay of $34.07 per ton. The quartz is free milling and ground in a two-stamp mill. The Black Horse, an old property near Rockland, has yielded thousands of dollars and shares similar characteristics.
