California sheriff deputy killed during attempted arrest
Last Saturday afternoon Charles Barr a vaquero shot and killed Deputy Sheriff Taylor of Humboldt county at Kings river while the latter was trying to place him under arrest. Barr escaped and officers are trying to effect his capture. Great activity is being displayed in winning circles at the old camp of Lodi Nye county. The Illinois mine is breaking down rock that runs between 150 and 450 per ton. A water plant costing 15000 is being installed to supply the town mine and smelter. The total vote of Nevada for Presidential candidates in the recent election was as follows Taft 10214 Bryan 10655 Debs 2024 Hisgen 415. The Socialist party by its vote for President in the future will be allowed a place on all State tickets the required per cent having been cast. Charles Moyer President of the Western Federation of Miners is in Carson and it is reported he is there for the purpose of securing pardons for Preston and Smith who are serving terms in the penitentiary for the killing of John Silva a restaurant keeper at Goldfield two years ago during labor troubles.
