Valley Irrigation and Rail Link for Yerington Growth
Horace Dunbar notes in Salt Lake Tribune that Mason Valley’s fertile farms and mining districts could flourish with proper irrigation and a new railroad to Yerington. Smith Valley remains largely desert awaiting waters, while Mason Valley already ships honey, potatoes, and farm produce to San Francisco and Chicago. A railroad is expected within months, boosting agriculture and mining needs across Mason, Smith, Antelope, and upper East Walker valleys. A shipment from Arends & Hanson brings fresh watermelons and peaches for today’s shoppers.

Joseph E. Caine, Verington Copper general manager, reports from Salt Lake that the 400-foot level drift has reached solid chalcopyrite near the footwall and shows 21 feet to the vein. He notes drifting toward the vein continues, ore appears promising, but no definitive length width or value yet. The shaft earlier deviated into granite lime, leaving the footwall country entirely.
