A letter from Lawrence Trenam to his mother describes enlisting in the Artillery this spring, plans to leave Cam Fre mont, and pride in his unit. He shares a marching song, a censor approved note from overseas, and hopeful words about returning home to a gray home in the West.
Mr H Pohe of Yerlington Nevada receives notice about funds collected for the Second War Fund. It lists contributions received at Mr McAdoo's Washington office, clarifying pledge payments should go to the local chapter rather than National Headquarters. Please acknowledge receipt of this letter.
The Fourth Liberty Loan campaign opens September 28 with funds expected to be set at about four percent interest. Treasury officials anticipate coordination with Senate and House leaders, while Secretary MeMiloo reviews the plan. Brooks departs for a California visit. Mrs McCulla travels to Washington. a son is born to Mr and Mrs Pennington.
Mason Valley farmers meet at Yerington under Farm Bureau urging priority water rights owners to surrender irrigation for potatoes. Those surrendering would pay a 1 per acre tax to fund water storage, with limits on alfalfa use and a survey showing 1100 acres of potatoes and limited water.
County commissioners oversee routine bills and road matters while considering care for L. C. Salisbury and a bond maintenance trust. Widespread inspector duties and numerous polling and liquor board actions fill the agenda, with resolutions on transfers, warrants, and tax assessments.
Mr Coleman spoke forcefully on the overstage annual Walker River flow at the lower Mason Valley end reaching 282 000 acre feet enough to irrigate all cultivable land. He denied stock water rights without full priority satisfaction and many farmers signed the agreement while others signed to follow. W H Churchyard and family and Chas A McLeod and family plan a Green Creek outing. Dr Brown departs for California for vacation.
Governor Boyle and state engineers toured Dayton and nearby river points to assess scarce Carson River water. Officials seek a fair distribution to save potato crops while hay fields may lose water. The Lloyd Dam lowering offers limited relief to Dayton area farmers, but most farms face drought with no snow or rain to help.
Ed Sweetland, stationed on the East Walker river, faces instructions from Carson City. The longtime priority holder will receive water first, dating from 1860 to 1868, with the new claimant to be left without. Residents shift from wartime food needs to established water rights as a quarrel over usage stabilizes.
The Thompson branch of A R C reports shipments from the work room to the Chapter HQs. April totals include 25 pairs socks 4 pajamas 6 helmets 3 sweaters 43 handkerchiefs 36 washcloths 20 gloves 1 surgical jacket 4 quilts 23 pillows. May adds 1 quilt 4 sweaters 2 helmets 2 wristlets 46 pairs socks. June lists 2 sweaters 1 helmet 30 pairs socks 24 helpless case shirts. Mrs J Ho Board chairs the branch and Mrs A J McNab oversees the work room.

The price fixing committee of the war industries board and copper producers agreed to keep copper at twenty six cents a pound through November subject to President Wilson's approval. McGowan departed last Sunday for Burns Oregon where Mrs McGowan is visiting relatives.
Mrs. E A West received a wire from Provost Marshall General Crowder announcing the death of her brother Private Charles Gifford in a railroad wreck dated July 23. He served with the 362 Regiment Infantry National Army and was drafted at Churchill County. He was unmarried, 24, born in Bakersfield, California, and had lived in this county as a cowboy. Surviving siblings include Mrs. E A West and Mrs Geo Wagner, and Private Roy Gifford in the Signid Corps at Vancouver Barracks. The community offers heartfelt sympathy.
George Forass known as the Little Russia woman who urged war was reportedly wounded July 19. He volunteered for Camp Lewis, despite naturalization papers, saying he was well and eager for action. He is 31, married, and formerly worked in Nevada Douglas, with recent residence in Morning Star and Smith Valley. His friends wish him a swift recovery.
At the request of city parents, A S Phipps will convene a Boy Scout meeting at the M E Church next Wednesday afternoon August 14. Boys ages 12 to 16 may join. The movement aims to build physical strength and moral character while teaching courtesy, cooperation, patriotism, and service to the community. Mr Phipps is praised for offering to organize the local effort.
Plans are under way to hold a Mason Labor Day event on September 2. If the program can be completed, the day should prove of considerable interest. Further announcements will follow next week. Mrs. Will Penrose traveled to Reno last week and met her brother Wh. Stewart, who plans to accompany her home. Mr. Stewart departs soon for Camp Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Guilt and Miss Marjory Anne left Tuesday for a late-mante trip to California.
